Job summary: / To assist the Head of Risk and Compliance in all areas of internal and external legal compliance in order to ensure that the Firm operates in line with all relevant rules, regulations and best practice, and in particular, all aspects of the Money Laundering Regulations and the SRA’s Outcomes Focused Regulation
Main duties and responsibilities
Anti-Money Laundering /
- To manage/supervise compliance staff primarily in relation to reviewing CDD/AML, answering AML queries and to escalate high risk issues and suspicious activity to the Head of Risk and Compliance and/or MLRO as and when appropriate
- To analyse new client risk profiles and advise the business in regards to the acceptance of new clients by balancing risk levels against the need to take on new business
- To research and provide opinions on complex AML related queries as directed by the Head of Compliance or MLRO
- To review client matter files (existing and new) to ensure there is sufficientongoing monitoring
- To communicate regularly with, and to immediately report any problems or potential areas of compliance concern to, the Head of Risk and Compliance as appropriate
- To supervise support staff with AML compliance roles in Finance and IT
Conflicts /
- Legal analysis of potential conflicts / confidentiality issues and reviewing conflict check results as and when required
- Supporting and advising the Head of Risk and Compliance and COLP in liaising with partners and fee earners to obtain further information to assist with conflicts analysis
General /
- To keep up-to-date with all relevant regulatory and compliance developments and to monitor all actual and potential compliance risks to the Firm.
- To research legislation, government directives, contractual analysis and any other areas within the remit of compliance
- To update and implement any changes to compliance policies, practices, structures, and procedures as directed by the Head of Risk & Compliance
- To assist with planning and implementation of compliance-related projects
- To identify internal training needs of fee-earners and support staff and to assist with the planning and provision of training
- To provide monthly updates to the wider Compliance team on issues raised or trends identified
- To support the Head of Risk & Compliance and others with compliance roles throughout the firm
- Other relevant duties as and when required
Key requirements
- 2+ years in a compliance role in a London law firm with a primary focus on AML
- Qualified lawyer (England & Wales or alternative jurisdiction)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- A high standard of written and oral communication
- Positive and robust attitude with a high level of personal motivation
- Will always strive for excellent levels of client service
