GENERAL SUMMARY
Responsible for responding to sexual assaultsurvivors at (INSERT AGENCY, ORGANIZATION NAME, ADDRESS).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Successfully completes training at a recognized SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Program.
- Completes competency checklist while being observed by an experienced nurse examiner.
- Completes 4 hours of continuing education annually, regarding the issues of sexual assault and forensic examinations.
- Follows policies, procedures and protocols for the program.
- Participates in documentation and evaluation process with SANE coordinators or manager.
- Assures all activities performed adhere to established SANE guidelines.
- Maintains close working relationship with SANE coordinators and members of other disciplines in the care of sexual assault survivors.
- Maintains equipment and supplies in examination room after use.
- Maintains records and statistics, as appropriate.
- Takes on-call shifts as scheduled, responding within 30 minutes of the initial call.
- Sexual assault nurse examiners agree to a minimum of one 24 hour on-call shift or two 12 hour on-call shifts during a weekend each month. (Weekend shifts are defined as 6:00 A.M. Saturday to 6:00 A.M. Sunday and 6:00 A.M. Sunday to 6:00 A.M. Monday.), as well as 2-14 hour on call shifts during weekdays (Weekday shifts are defined as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M.) Each nurse examiner will also be on call at least one holiday each calendar year. (Holidays are defined as Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.) If primary work responsibilities do not permit the on-call nurse to respond to a call at 4:00 P.M. the coordinator or manager must be notified of delay in arrival time.
- Submits on-call availability to SANE coordinator or manager to facilitate on-call scheduling.
- Maintains contact with the SANE Manager for at least 1 year after termination of contract and responds to any and all subpoenas for cases examined while employed with the SANE.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Registered Nurse with current state registration.
- Working knowledge of all OSHA safety and health standards relevant to the position and job duties.
- Completion of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training by a recognized program.
- One year's experience in nursing.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) desired, though not required.
- Ability to plan and organize work autonomously.
- Liaison with other human service agencies, clients, personnel and individuals in related programs.
- Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness and good judgment in executing the role and responsibilities of a nurse examiner.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Requires concentrated, complex and variable mental efforts, with emphasis on synthesis of information, written and oral communication.
- Documentation of updated Hepatitis B vaccination.
- Awareness of occupational exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Ability to lift materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Independently mobile. Tasks performed while sitting, standing and walking. Must have access to reliable transportation in order to meet the needs of the organization.
- Requires access to medical and personal information of a delicate nature, and realizes the potentially serious results of improper disclosure.
- An at-will employment relationship exists between the Nurse Examiner and the organization.

Attachment
Compensation for Services
- For services rendered, compensation will be as follows;
Exams performed during orientation with another nurse examiner $50.00/case
During the 1st year of independent practice as an nurse examiner $125.00/case
After 1 year of service $150.00/case
After 100 exams completed` $175.00/case
- In the event a nurse examiner is requested to do an exam and reports to the exam suite and no exam is done due to reasons beyond the control of the nurse or the patient fails to present for the exam the nurse will be compensated at a rate of $100.00.
- Compensation for on-call hours will be as follows;
14 hour on-call weekday shift (4:00 P.M. – 6:00 A.M.) $25.00/shift
12 hour weekend call shift
(Saturdays and Sunday 6:00 A.M.- 6:00 P.M. or 6:00 P.M. -6:00 A.M.)$20.00/shift
- Nurse examiner will be compensated for time spent in connection with testimony in court proceedings at a rate of $30.00/hour. This time shall include 1 hour preparation time, time spent with attorneys in meetings or phone calls, or actual court related proceedings, from the time the nurse examiner arrives at the site until she is excused to leave the site.
- In the event the nurse is qualified as an expert witness and paid expert witness fees by the court or prosecutors office, this will serve as payment in full for any and all time involved with the court proceedings.
