Upcoming Dates
· October 9 Columbus Day holiday – school closed
· October 11 Volunteer Day for grades 6-12
· October 13 Yearbook photo make-up day
· October 27 Professional Development Day – no school for students
· Oct. 30-Nov. 3 Red Ribbon Week
· October 31 Halloween Carnival – 4:00-6:00 P.M. – no homework night
· November 1 Fall Sports Assembly – 10:10 a.m. in new gym
· November 9 Veterans Day Assembly for Pre-K-12 – 8:30 A.M. in new gym
· November 10 Veterans Day holiday – school closed
· November 22-26 Thanksgiving Holidays
Upper School
· Term one is now completed and parent/teacher conferences are currently underway.
· Teachers have now been working with the students long enough to know them individually, and they are making every effort to make them all successful in various ways.
· Teachers and students are gearing up for volunteer day. 9th grade will go to FTCC Daycare, Seniors will work in the Lower School. Juniors and Sophomores are still finalizing their plans.
· Honey Baked Ham sales will be happening soon. Nancy Goodrum is the point person on the faculty for that effort.
· We held our senior college night earlier in the month. A program was presented by the College Counseling office to many seniors and parents who attended.
· PSATs are coming up in a few short weeks.
· We had and will continue to have several colleges come to campus and reach out to our seniors. The recent Campbell University on-site visit was particular successful with 12 seniors being admitted to Campbell on that day. Those 12 seniors were also offered nearly $750,000 in total scholarships, should they choose to attend Campbell.
· Christie Rains has returned to her duties as School Counselor.
Middle School
· Congratulations to Bobby Parke for being elected as the Middle School Student Council President and to Marshall Thompson for being elected as the Vice-President. The MSSC will have their first meeting soon. The remaining offices will be appointed.
· Congratulations to the 2017-18 Middle School Builders Club officers: Rachel Null-President; Sophia Hernandez - Vice-President; Caroline Lowe - Secretary; Leah Rufenacht –Treasurer.
· Trevor Romain, an author, illustrator, and motivational speaker, will speak in an assembly for grades 6-8 from 10:40-12:00 on October 6.
· The Big Buddies/Little Buddies program (7th and 1st grades; 8th and 2nd grades) will do their first activity together on the afternoon of Volunteer Day on October 11.
Lower School
· Chromebook launch October 2 3:30-5:30 p.m. in Mrs. Mescall’s classroom for fifth grade students
· Book fair October 2-6 in the LS library
· With you all the way assembly October 6 for grades 2-5 (assembly focuses on character building)
· First lower school assembly October 20 at 2:30 p.m. will highlight grades 4-5
· Kara Strauch (pre-k teacher) will be presenting at the NCAIS conference October 27
· Grades PK-3 will be focusing on writing workshop during professional development
· Grades 4-5 will be attending NCAIS conference and/or technology professional development
