NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL

Minutes of Regular Meeting

May 13, 2015

In Attendance: Maria Rayson, Jolanta Hickey, Cheron Christmas-Lafleur, Barb Vincent, Bernice Peacock, Margaret McGrath, Micheal Attridge, Cathy Ludlow , Hyacinth Fernandes.

Regrets: None received

1)  Welcome and Opening Prayer: Meeting opened by Maria. Prayer: Recited by Cheron.

2)  Student Council Update: No update as we did not have a representative from council attend the meeting. Assume all is well!

3)  Approval/Amendment of Agenda:

·  Agenda was amended to include request from Grad Committee staff members (Mrs. Champion and Mrs. Reiter)

4)  Review/and Acceptance of minutes: Motion to accept minutes moved by Mike. Seconded by Bernice Motion carried.

5)  Special Request from Grad Committee:

·  Special request received from grad committee asking if the girls could wear coloured shoes for grad!

·  After much debate and deliberation the request was granted!

·  Girls can wear coloured shoes to both Grad and Prom. It is hoped that this modification will help ease the costs of grad/prom somewhat.

6)  Staff Report:

·  Fashion Show moved to June 4th.

·  Ms. Jack’s Musical performance “crossing Over” scheduled for May 21 and 22. Tickets are $5.00 each and are available at the door. Performance is at ND school

·  Ms. McGrath will ask Ms. Jack is she needs anything for the performances (that can be supplied by CSAC)

·  Mrs. McGrath also mentioned the importance of the grade 11’s attending the grade 12 religion retreat next year (when they will be in grade 12). The retreat takes place in late November and is a wonderful experience that all grade 12’s should have in their final year.

7)  Principal and Vice Principal’s Report:

·  Greening Grant received by ND for $25,000! Application for the grant was prepared and submitted by Miss D.Pearson, Mrs. Santos-D’Souza and Mrs. Peacock as part of the School’s Eco Team. Grant was sanctioned for the 2015-16 academic year.

·  Money is to be used to improve the overall appearance of the school property and grounds as well as create some kind of outdoor study space, recreational space and possibly place to eat lunch etc. in the good weather.

·  Student Council Room is operational and providing a home to the members. They will inherit the furniture from the guidance office once the renovations to the building are complete.

·  Staffing situation continues to be good. There is 1 LTO position open for Physical Education that will be filled by next week.

·  Mr. McMorrow officially announced that he would be retiring at the end of the school year. Position will be posted and filled as per Board policy.

7) Treasurer’s Report:

·  $ 4, 659.41 funds on hand.

8)  Chair’s Report:

·  CSAC appreciation evening is May 20th

·  Nothing new to report!

9)  Other Business:

·  Mrs. Hickey is co-ordinating with the church for calendar events for the next year.

·  Important year end dates:

o  June 19th is Prom

o  June 24th is Grad

Next CSAC meeting is Wednesday June 10th at Gabby’s on Kingston Road.
