PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1Work of this section includes:
.1Provide blackout shades and accessories where indicated on
drawings.
1.2Quality Assurance
.1Provide window treatment units which are complete assemblies, to
the greatest extent possible, produced by one manufacturer for each type required, including hardware, accessory items, mounting brackets and fastenings.
.2Fire Performance Characteristics - Provide drapery material which is
certified to be inherently flame resistant in accordance with requirements of NFPA 701.
.3Fabricator/Installer Qualifications - Firm with not less than five years
of successful experience in fabrication and installation of window treatment similar to those required for this project.
1.3Submittals
.1Submit manufacturer's technical data and installation instructions for
each type of window treatment unit required. Include methods of installation for each type of opening and supporting structure as well as maintenance instructions.
.2Submit shop drawings, including plans and elevations and relation of
new work to existing construction. Field verify existing dimensions and conditions prior to production of shop drawings.
.3Submit fabric manufacturer's standard color card, together with 12"
square physical sample for each fabric required.
.4Submit smoke/fire test data.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1Acceptable Manufacturers
.1Blackout shade material shall be products manufactured by Draper
Shade and Screen Co., Inc. or the approved equivalent.
2.2Shades
.1Blackout shade material shall be 100 percent fiberglass-based cloth,
vinyl coated for crack, fade and peel resistance. Fabric shall be inherently flame resistant. Double sewn hems, top and bottom. Colors shall be selected by Project Architect from manufacturer's standard. 190# warp and 180# fill tensile strength, 14 oz. per square yard.
a.Fabric shall be equal to Draper Triopak II.
.2Shades to be single roller type. Cord to be hard braided, #4½",
attached to slat with #211 screweye and cord clasp. Rollers to be institutional quality, minimum 1¼" diameter with heavy duty spring. All shades with a length greater than 45" shall be mounted on steel rollers with locking end caps. Color to be same as shade fabric. Wood rollers shall be 1¼" diameter of well seasoned wood. Slats shall be of well seasoned hard maple not less than 1¼" x 5/16". Heavy duty brackets, cadmium plated of a type to permit shade to function properly. Pulley to be locking type.
2.3Fabrication
.1Prior to fabrication, verify actual opening dimensions by accurate site
measurements. Adjust dimensions for proper fit at openings.
.2Cut blackout shade fabric square and true and attach to rollers in a
similar manner. Width of shades shall provide maximum protection from light leaks, length shall be approximately 20 percent longer than window height.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1Installation
.1General: Install shades in manner indicated to comply with
manufacturer's instructions. Position units level, plumb, secure, at proper height and location relative to adjoining window units and other related work. Securely anchor units with proper clips and anchorages, suited to type of mounting indicated.
.2Remove existing window treatment and hardware where
replacement is indicated. Remove existing fasteners and patch substrate as required to match existing and provide support for new work.
.3Provide adequate clearance between sash or other existing
construction to permit unencumbered operation of window treatments.
.4Adjust and check operating items of hardware and accessories.
Replace units which cannot be adjusted to operate freely and smoothly as intended for the application made.
