JOB POSTING: New Student Orientation Coordinator Position

Acadia is seeking a New Student Orientation Coordinator to fill a summer contract in the Department of Student Services to assist in the planning and execution of the 2018 New Student Orientation. This is a full-time position from June 4 to September 5, 2018, and a part-time position (10 hours per week) from September 6-30.

Overall responsibilities include:

  • With members of the New Student Orientation planning committee; develop Goals and Objectives for New Student Orientation (including the traditional arrival and welcome week period) which are based on student success, academic success, and health and wellness.
  • Serving on and working with members of the New Student Orientation Planning Committee; design and implement a robust welcome week and new student orientation program that meets the needs of our incoming students.
  • Work closely with the Acadia Student Union to ensure programing/schedule goals and objectives are shared and supported.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Working with key stakeholders on campus to plan events like Matriculation, move in day logistics, student orientation programming, and academic orientation
  • Developing a schedule and process for informing, directing and welcoming new students before their arrival to campus
  • Leading and training a group of students as Welcome Week Volunteer Leaders throughout the process of arrival and welcome week. Along with this, holding these student leaders accountable to the shared goals and objectives for new student orientation.
  • Preparing a schedule ensuring all students will be able to engage and participate in exciting and enriching opportunities, while understanding the wishes of all incoming students are not the same.
  • Work in conjunction with members of the International Centre staff (some of who will be on the planning committee) to ensure events and schedules provide for the arrival of our international students
  • Develop and manage the New Student Orientation website and all incoming communications including social media.
  • Assist in the development of an assessment tool for New Student Orientation and prepare a final report.

Qualifications:

  • Returning Acadia student; with a strong understanding of the diverse student population
  • Acadia New Student Orientation (arrival and welcome week) experience and or residence experience
  • Event management and promotion experience
  • Staff management and training experience
  • Communications skills as they relate to social media and website management
  • GPA higher than 2.0
