A Covenant

Between the Unitarian Universalist Ministers of Canada (UUMOC)
and the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Unitarian Council

UUMOC

The Unitarian Universalist Ministers of Canada (UUMOC) is a national organization of ministers in Canada and a chapter of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association. Itspurposes are to support UU ministers, to work in partnership with lay members of our congregations, to enhance the quality of the UU ministers’ spiritual and social engagement in Canadian life, and to cooperate with the UUMA, the CUC, and the UUA.

CUC Board of Trustees

The Canadian Unitarian Council (CUC) is a council of Canadian Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist congregations. Its mission is to enhance, nurture and promote Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist religion in Canada. The CUC provides tangible support for religious exploration, spiritual growth and social responsibility. Along with professional ministers, it represents our faith in the larger social and religious environments.

Recognizing the importance of professional ministry in supporting Unitarians and Universalists and their congregations as they pursue their spiritual and ethical paths,

And that the vision and leadership of our Canadian Unitarian and Universalist movement benefits from the separate and collective wisdom and service of its professional ministers and lay-leaders, their mutual co-operation, and their commitment to effective ministry grounded in trust, respect, and clear communication,

These two organizations desire to be in right relationship with each other, the better to grow vital religious communities in Canada.

Therefore, we covenant together to:

·  Strengthen the quality and quantity of our communications and engagement with each other;

·  Support access to, and engagement with, professional ministry in Canadian congregations and in the CUC;

·  Continue to develop a Canadian ministry and to welcome and provide support to ministers coming into our congregations;

·  Establish a formal process to assure consultation with UUMOC by the CUC Board on all initiatives and policies that will impact the growth and wellbeing of the Unitarian Universalist movement in Canada and professional ministry;

·  Establish a formal relationship that would bring the counsel and expertise of professional ministry on behalf of UUMOC into the board’s activities.
