Extra Credit Opportunity
Panel Discussion on the “Purpose of Education”
Panel Members (Extra Credit):
Please prepare an “Argument Brief” for your position.
You can either make 28 copies, or send it to me by and I will make the copies.
If you are representing another author please:
● write a thesis of their main ideas about the purpose of education.
● identify specific textual examples/quotations that support and illustrate the
thesis
● develop some of your own examples to illustrate and develop their purpose of
education
● Prepare a few specific questions, from higher on Bloom’s Taxonomy, for class
discussion (You might, for example, evaluate how your author would respond to the views of another author).
Note: If you are working with another student on a specific author (i.e. you both signed up for Plato), please coordinate with them. You can either submit one Argument Brief, or you can each prepare your own.
If you are a Student author/Big Me, please:
● write a thesis of your main ideas about the purpose of education.
● develop some of your own examples to illustrate and develop your purpose of
education
● identify specific textual examples/quotations from other authors and explain
how they support your own thesis, or explain why your view is different
● Prepare a few specific questions, from higher on Bloom’s Taxonomy, for class
discussion (You might, for example, apply your views to the experience of another author).
Audience Members:
If you are not in the panel, you will be a voting member. You will write a brief statement explaining your views of education in relation to the views expressed by the panel (Due ).
You will not have to agree with anyone, but rather you will get to explain your views in relation to those expressed by the panel and why you feel your views on the purpose of education are the best. You must include (at least) one outside source in your brief statement (and of course use proper MLA, including in text and end of text citations).
If you have questions, please contact me.
Good luck.
