Who Am I? Dates: (July 20, 1304 – July 19, 1374) Born in ArezzoItaly – part of Tuscany
I was primarily doing my writing and teaching in AvignonFrance, during the Avignon Papacy. I will eventually travel all of Italy as a celebrity in search of classical Latin documents.
What did I do? I was a Humanist who created the first sonnets that espoused my love for a woman by the name of Laura DeNoves. My most noted work with sonnets is found in the book Canzoniere and the Trionfi ("Triumphs"). Additionally, I would spend my days looking for and decoding old Latin text to uncover their knowledge and power.
What did I believe? That only through studying the classics can one truly appreciate beauty and art, find the classics and one will find love. It is a shame that so much of our past is destroyed by ignorance.
What did I say? "Whereare the numerous constructions erected by Agrippa, of which only the Pantheon remains? Where are the splendorous libraries and palaces of the emperors?"
Why should you know me? I am the reason that people such as Christopher Marloe and William Shakespeare works will be beautiful, I helped to uncover classical Latin knowledge and helped to decode the secrets of the old Roman Empire.
