Student job placement refers to an exit strategy that seeks to assist students with placement at workplace relevant to their fields of study.

  1. AIM

To assist student/unemployed graduates with exposure to the world of work in potential workplaces and entrepreneurship opportunities.

  1. OBJECTIVE

To establish a network of possible workplaces through optimum utilization of National, Provincial, social, Economic, Business and Entrepreneurial Resources available to Waterberg FET College and to enter into partnerships with these workplaces with the aim of placing students so that they could be exposed to workplaces relevant to their field of study.

  1. DEFINITIONS
  2. Experiential Training

Opportunity to afford N6 students who qualified at the College with practical experience to complete their Diploma by rendering their services in the different units of the College, e.g.Administration, Human Resources,for a maximum period of 18 months.

3.2.Internship

A National practice to afford unemployed graduates who completed their Degree or diploma an opportunity to find employment or establish financial foundations for entrepreneurship while in the employment.

3.3.Work placement

A national practice to place unemployed N6 graduates who require practical training to complete the diploma at relevant workplaces

3.4.Job placement

This refers to NC(V) students who are busy studying level 2 or 3 or have completed level 4 academic programmes and require a period of practical in a job environment relevant to their academic programmes.

3.5.Job shop

Refers to hunting for the job by providing information and guidance to students on strategies of job hunting to avoid creating unnecessary expectations of being employed by the College or any other institution where they are placed.

  1. RATIONALE

Student placement can therefore include one of the following placements:

4.1.Experiential training takes when an N6 College student is placed at one of the college sites which are Central office, IT Centre, Business studies centre and Engineering & Skills centre

4.2.Internship takes place when University/University of Technology/College diploma graduates are placed in relevant job markets on voluntary or stipend based employment to complement their institutional studies in order to acquire a qualification

4.3.Work placement 1 takes place when college students have an N6 Business Studies qualification or a minimum of N3 for Engineering Studies to be placed in relevant workplaces to qualify for a diploma or artisanship in case of engineering students.

4.4.Job placement takes place when a student studying NC(V) programme Level 2, 3 and 4 is placed in a workplace relevant to their academic study programme to complement their College studies.

  1. STIPEND

In view of placed students who have not yet found employment, it would be appropriate to provide them with stipend of R2500.00 per month to assist them to access their work places.

  1. PERIOD OF PLACEMENT

This is the maximum time span expected from the student to spend at any institution where placed unless if there are any other arrangement done with the institutional management. A student is expected to spend only one year at an institution while also looking for job opportunities in other work establishments.

  1. CONCLUSION

The execution of placement depends on institutional policies and procedures in respective work establishments and as per agreement (MOU) with relevant stakeholders.
