COURSE :History 7: The Medieval World and Beyond
YEAR: Fall 2016- Spring 2017
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The 7th grade year is a study of world history and geography during the medieval and early modern eras. Students study the development and changes of complex civilizations. They identify and explore the similarities and patterns of these civilizations. Emphasis is placed on the fact that many of the civilizations developed concurrently and impacted each other. All units include an examination of the impact of religion, economics, politics, and social history on the medieval and early modern eras. The Five Themes of Geography (location, movement, region, place, and human-environmental interaction) are woven into all the units, with emphasis on how geography affected the development of these civilizations.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
The learning projects are based on the CA Standards for History-Social Science and will follow the GRAPES model:
Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economics, and Society.
Beginning in 2014, the Common Core Standards will be used as a performance based model to measure student learning.

GRADING SCALE
School-wide scale:90+ = A 80-89 = B 70-79 = C 60-69 = D 59 and below = F
Student Production Daily Grade
Point1: Arrive on time, with school ID on lanyard, waiting in an orderly line
Point 2: Bring materials and prepare for class within two minutes…
Point 3: Attentive to teacher presentation, and begin working until instructed to stop…
Point 4:Participate in the classroom clean before dismissal
Classwork Requirements:
A custodial parent or guardian’s signature is required to complete the student work.
1. All learning projects must be completed before turning in.
2. Late work after an excused absence/tardy will be eligible to receive full points
3. Late workwill be accepted for half credit.
4. Extra credit applies to learning projects that exceed the given assignments of the class.
These assignments can be arranged only if all regular assigned work is completed…
Classwork Grading Rubric
On Time: 1 point … Late: half point
Test Grade Rubric: 1pt. per question…Scores will vary according to the type and length of the exam.
Essay Writing Rubric: The writing rubric used in the English Dept. will apply

- Written assignments, Written exams, Verbal Q & A responses, Projects
Grades are based on a total points system of student work in the following areas:
Citizenship: Daily Productivity Classwork Test/Quizzes
Participation:
Passive Participation: Some students are quiet and shy by nature, however, they can still show participation by being prepared with materials for class, body language/posture, and other non-verbal signs.
Active Participation: Some students are not shy and are eager to actively be involved in class activities. Such as discussions, answering questions and leading group work projects.
Tardies:
Students arriving late to class risk missing the lesson instructions, and risk leaving their groups short-handed…
Having less time in class to finish an assignment results in having to complete the work as homework.
PARENT NOTIFICATION:
Poor attendance, excessive tardies, unacceptable behavior, declining academic performance will result in parent notification.Any student who is in danger of failing a course will have parent notification (school-wide policy).
ABSENCES:
Excessive absences can affect a student’s grade in a negative way, which may include being dropped from course after 15 absences in a Semester (school-wide policy).
CLASS RULES;
In addition to the school rules/norms stated in the Student Agenda, the following rules also apply:
- Kindness and courtesy, is the theme in my classroom. This is a “yes sir/no sir, yes mam/no mam” environmentfor the kids and the teacher.
- Come to class prepared to learn and contribute to the learning experience.
- Do the right thing at the right time, and be responsible and accountable for your actions.
