Purpose of the Post
Working as part of a team of professionals delivering careers advice, the post holder works with students across Masters and MBA programmes (and on occasion, alumni of these programmes) providing one-to-one advice and support and delivering career and professional development workshops on a range of career-related topics.
The prime focus of the role is to ensure students are appropriately prepared to compete effectively in the labour market and secure positions at top-tier graduate and MBA employers.
With specific focus on employers and careers in the Consulting sector, the post provides sector-specific advice and information to students wishing to pursue a career in Consulting as well as contributing to building colleagues’ knowledge of the Consulting sector.
Key Responsibilities
·  Contribute to the full range of careers service activities for students, mainly through providing 1:1 consultations, small group work and class based presentations.
·  As a member of the Consultancy Sector Team, contribute to careers service provision for those students interested in a career in Consultancy by running sector-specific drop ins, small group sessions, sector panels etc on the following types of topics:
·  Developing careers strategy
·  Researching the market
·  Developing a targeted approach
·  Marketing yourself
·  Interview techniques – preparation and practise
·  Assessment Centre preparation
·  Labour market information (i.e. salary surveys)
·  Provide 1:1 careers consultations for full time MBA students
·  Identify, contribute to and/or develop service provision where gaps exist. Work with Consultancy sector specialists in the Employer Relations team in C&PDS to define and deliver a thorough programme for both MBA & MSc students, to include a rigorous pre-arrival component and on-site in person sessions, to be delivered in a timespan that aligns to the recruiting timetables of the major employers in the sector.
·  Develop and maintain an understanding of global employment trends in the Consultancy sector in both the MSc and MBA employment markets
·  Contribute to the e-resources and online delivery of relevant careers modules
·  Take part in relevant training both internally and externally to ensure that professional standards of service delivery are maintained
·  Attend and participate in both internal and external career and employer events and conferences as required
·  Support and work closely with the careers team and undertake any other activities as may be required
·  Understand and adhere to existing service levels and provision
·  Develop a close working relationship with the careers team and external consultants
·  Build effective relationships with students and alumni to help in understanding their career requirements and to support ongoing careers activities
·  Respond to the occasional demand for out of normal working hours (0900-1700) for appointments & events, including evening appointments and occasional Saturday sessions.

Requirements

Educated to degree level or equivalent / E
A qualification in careers guidance, coaching or mentoring e.g. MA/PG Dip Careers Guidance / D
Experience
Significant experience and working knowledge either gained from a similar role in another university or business school, or in a recruitment role within the Consultancy sector / E
Experience of recruitment, especially conducting interviews / E
Experience of workshop delivery and design to diverse audiences / E
Experience in graduate, MBA and/or experienced hire recruitment / D
Experience of delivering psychometric testing / D
Experience of delivering assessment centres / D
Experience of e-learning or developing e-resources / D
Knowledge
An understanding of the Consultancy environment / E
An understanding of the key issues affecting the career choices of international students / D
Skills & Abilities
The interpersonal skills required to help students make effective career choices on an individual (and where appropriate - group) basis / E
The ability to be pro-active in helping students manage their careers / E
The ability to work with pre-experience MSc students as well as more experienced professionals on the MBA programmes. The ability to adapt your approach according to their needs / E
Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and sensitivity to the needs of others / E
