AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF VERNELL G. HAIRE OF ORANGEBURGCOUNTYAND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were genuinelysaddened to learn of the death of Vernell G. Haire at the age of seventyone on Saturday, January 16, 2016; and
Whereas, born December 7, 1944, Vernell Grant was the daughter of the late Mary Hay Grant and the late Shelly Grant, Sr., and was raised in Allendale; and
Whereas, deeply influenced by the Christian values instilled in her, shewas baptized and became a member of Happy Home Baptist Church in Allendale where she worshipeduntil she was married. After her marriage, she joined Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where she continued her Christian journey and growth; and
Whereas, Mrs. Haire received her primary and secondary education in the Allendale public school system where she played basketball and excelled academically, finishing as the salutatorian of her graduating class; and
Whereas, she earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics and a master of education from South Carolina State College, now South Carolina State University, andcompleted additional hours that earned a master’splusthirty designation; and
Whereas, together with her beloved husband of fortyseven years, Bernard Haire, she reared two fine children, Dr. Aaron Haire and Alicia Yvonne Gordon. She was blessed with the love of an adoring granddaughter, Eden LaRae Gordon; and
Whereas, she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and the St. John Benevolent Society in Barnwell; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Vernell Haire and for the example of sacrifice and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
Thatthe members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Vernell G. Haireof Orangeburg Countyand extend their deepest sympathy to her loving family and her many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Vernell G. Haire.
