1. How did the boys wind up stranded on the island?
2. Who were the two boys who met on the beach in the beginning? How differently did each react to his situation?
3. What special object did they find, which later became the symbol of leadership, and gave the holder the right to speak at meetings? How did they use it to gather the very first meeting?
4. When all the boys first met, several of them arrived in formation, as though they were an army unit. They all wore a specific article of clothing that distinguished them. What was the article of clothing, and what group had they belonged to back in school? What job(s) did they assume on the island?
5. Who was the leader of this formation of boys? What was his attitude at first? (Give 2 examples).
6. Who became the leader of the island? How did he become leader? (Who does he say will rescue them?)
7. Piggy was probably the smartest boy on the island, but he had health problems that made the others think of him as weak. Give (2) examples of his intelligence and (2) examples of his disabilities.
8. What reasons does Jack give for not killing the wild pig? Do you think he’s telling the truth? Why or why not?
