Position Description – Digital Content Officer

The Capital City Local Learning & Employment Network

The Capital City Local Learning and Employment Network (City LLEN) is a not for profit incorporated association established in 2002 to deliver strategic solutions and initiatives to maximise the participation in education, training and employment of young people, focusing on those most at risk. We deliver our services within the City of Melbourne local government area boundary.

In late 2015 the Victorian Department of Education and Training offered the City LLEN 2 new Common Funding Agreements. These are to; deliver an amended LLEN program that represents a change in focus from 2014 and arranged in a 2 by 2 year contract period format and the Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) program for a one year contract period term (2016 only at this stage, however the Department have indicated the SWL funding should continue into 2017 but we have yet to receive this in writing).

The City LLEN currently has a vacancy for a casual, part time experienced social media communicator to support the LLEN and SWL programs.

The City LLEN is located in the heart of the CBD, Suite 208, 343 Little Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC, 3000.

Background

There are 31 LLEN’s across Victoria funded by the Victorian Department of Education and Training to assist those young people at risk of disengaging, or who have already disengaged. The goals of the LLEN Program are to support schools to:

  • Identify young people that are at risk of disengaging from education prior to completing Year 12 or a vocational equivalent
  • Identify and provide the support, education options and pathways to enable those young people to remain in education,

And support the community to:

  • Identify young people who have disengaged from education prior to achieving Year 12 or a vocation equivalent
  • Provide support, educational options and pathways to enable those young people to re-engage and remain in education.

The objectives of the SWL program are to:

  • Facilitate access to appropriate SWL placements for students undertaking VET as part of their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Victorian if Applied Learning (VCAL) and School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs)
  • Facilitate engagement between schools and employers, support schools to work directly with employers to place students in SWL placements
  • Liaise with employers and maintain information on the online portal to ensure it is current and meaningful
  • Identify local needs and industry priorities for appropriate SWL placements
  • Source local SWL placements for difficult to place students, and to
  • Collaborate with schools and other service providers to provide young people with holistic, integrated support to assist them to engage, and re-engage, in education and training.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend fortnightly staff meetings or as requested and negotiated to gaugetrends, upcoming events, news for the City LLEN & other information to inform your work and learn what aspects of the LLEN business need to be emphasised and how often
  • Maintain daily digital media content for the LLEN, including updating the new LLEN website (using WordPress when completed) as required to achieve targeted reach of the LLEN and expansion of our social media audience
  • Maintain, follow and read social media content and information relevant to the secondary education and youth sectors at all levels (local, state, national, international) to inform content development and ‘like/re-tweet” selectively and to maximize opportunity
  • With CEO and Engagement and Placement Officers develop social media content postings and content schedule for increased engagement with the education and youth sectors
  • Test differed content and formatting of posts to maximize supporter engagement
  • Respond to LLEN staff emails and texts in a timely manner to confirm receipt of posting instructions/ideas
  • Respond to enquiries via social media moderation and identify trending issues/comments and escalate these to other LLEN staff as needed
  • Alert the CEO and other LLEN staff to interesting trends or information they should be aware of
  • Prepare reports when requested on the success of different digital media content generated by the LLEN
  • Occasional attendance at LLEN events to tweet/update Facebook and take pictures as they happen and provide administrative assistance to other LLEN staff which may include greeting guests, recording attendance and other duties as needed
  • During quiet times for LLEN activity, post relevant research and other information to maintain the LLEN’s online presence
  • Grow audience engagement.

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the CEO.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The employee will be expected to work for approximately anywhere between 3 to 8hours a week receiving and responding to texts and emails from LLEN staff to alert them to information needed to be posted at any time between 8am and 6pm daily, as well attending staff meetings or LLEN events (providing set up and greeting support as well as social media and photo taking), posting and researching and writing posts. They will be provided with a LLEN email address and will be expected to log into our cloud shared drive to access emails and content for social media use.

Apart from fortnightly attendance at LLEN staff meetings (timing of which can vary) and the occasional attendance at LLEN events, the employee can perform their duties remotely.

The LLEN office is located at Suite 208, 343 Little Collins St and is one; ‘class room’ size room.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. An appropriate tertiary or vocational qualification (minimum Certificate IV) or working towards completing a tertiary qualification in communications, marketing or other relevant discipline together with demonstrated success implementing and managing digital content across several social media platforms.
  1. Demonstrated skills and experience writing content for different digital media platforms and content that gains traction, ability to read the trends and be drive greater engagement with the audience
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of measuring and reporting social media performance and developing reports and insights to impact future on-line activity
  1. Demonstrated written communication skills, particularly in using images, pictograms and editing digital content for relevant social media channels and audiences
  1. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and respond and meet posting expectations of LLEN staff as reasonably requested
  1. Demonstrated high level editing and managing videos, pictures and other online visual content using a range of software
  1. Demonstrated ability understand the issues impacting the education and youth sectors to strengthen the LLEN’s reputation and standing
  1. Demonstrated ability to manage data, efficient diary management and demonstrated high level ICT skills including the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications including email and internet.

The position is conditional upon a satisfactory Working with Children Check (Vic).

Contractual Period

October 2016 – late December 2016. This position has been created as a trial for the organisation and will be reviewed for further consideration and value at the end of this period.

Hours

It is expected that there will be a minimum of 3 hours work and up to 8 hours work per week (with the occasional whole day if attending a LLEN event required) distributed from Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. With an initial time allowance created for researching and reading background information.

Probationary Period

Not applicable - Casual role (position may be terminated at any time with one week’s notice)

Reimbursement

Travel

All travel for work (other than to reach the office from home and vice versa) will be reimbursed regardless of whether the employee has already used their MYKI to reach the LLEN office.

Mobile Phone

The casual wages offered have been calculated recognizing the incumbent is expected to use their mobile phone to carry out the expectations of the role.

Salary Package

Casual part time, hourly rate between $35 and $45 depending on qualifications and experience.

Employee to complete time sheets for fortnightly submission and payment of wages in arrears.

9.5% Superannuation
