Dear PAX Member or Prospective Member,

To prospective members, on behalf of the officers and members of the Kappa Chapter of Pi Alpha Xi, we would like to extend an invitation to become a member of our organization, the national honor society for Horticulture. To active members, you are invited to attend the dinner and ceremony for our 2017 initiates.

It is the mission of active members to promote scholarship, service, and friendship in the field of horticulture. Membership is an opportunity for students who have demonstrated academic excellence in the Department of Horticulture. Activities of the organization include a bulb sale held over homecoming, assisting with a Forest Service pollinator garden, and the awarding of several scholarships each spring. Active members receive honor cords to adorn their graduation gown.

For prospective members, if you choose to accept the nomination for membership, please plan to attend our wonderful initiation banquet, to be held on March 24, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Bull ‘n’ Bones Brewhaus on South Main St. (Blacksburg). The banquet and ceremony is in honor of new initiates, and will be attended by active members. Current members attend at no charge but registration is required.

For initiates, the membership fee is $25.00 (lifetime membership in Pi Alpha Xi – no further fees). You’ll receive a personalized membership certificate, lapel pin, and honor cords at graduation. A check made payable to Pi Alpha Xi should accompany the attached reservation sheet. Please return this no later than March to the PAX mailbox in 307 Saunders. If you have any questions about PAX or the banquet, please contact Justice Schlemmer (), any PAX officer, or faculty advisor, Dr. Holly Scoggins (). We hope to see you at the initiation banquet!

On Friday, March 24th, The Kappa Chapter of Pi Alpha Xi will be honoring its new initiates at Bull and Bones Brewhaus and Grill in the First and Main shopping area. Dinner is provided with registration. Non-alcoholic beverages come with the meal. The bar will be open with beer, wine, and cocktails available throughout the evening to attendees 21 and older (you pay).

Social starts at 6:00 p.m.; dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. Dress nicely (business) and please be prompt!
