SUMMER 2010 Volume 4, Number 2

The summer is going so quickly. Spring conferences, the Leadership Conference, golf events are over, and sign-ups are well under way for ASHHRA’s annual conference, being held September 26-28 in Tampa.

Chapter Leadership Conference

The Chapter Leadership Conference was held the first week in June. Chapter leaders from most of the chapters around the country met in Chicago to learn how to be more effect leaders and how to grow and support the local chapters. A sharing session on all the wonderful things you’re all already doing was very popular with attendees, as were the networking sessions.

Chapter News

CENTRAL ILLINOIS from Carrie Mull, President of CISHHRA:

We have two meeting dates left for our membership this year – 9/17 and 11/19. The September meeting is an all-day meeting with three topics of “Partnering with External Communities to Promote Healthcare Careers”, “Inspire, Influence and Motivate Others”, and “HR Defense”. Our November meeting is a half day and is our legal update.

The all-day meeting we had on May 21st was on the topics of “Healthcare Reform” and “High/Medium/Low Performers” (a Studer Group presentation).

We awarded two scholarships at our May 21st meeting – one was for a member to pay for taking their PHR prep class and the other for a member to attend the ASHHRA conference in September since her employer cut spending on education and travel.

INDIANA from Bruce Tisdale, President of ISHHRA

As a follow up issue to our chapter leaders call, I am provide you with theschedule of conferences and board meetings for the next year. Pleasenote that two of the dates are still tentative. Bruce

MICHIGAN

I had the privilege of attending Michigan’s spring conference in East Lansing this year. I’d not been to any Michigan conferences before, so this was a real treat. The keynote speaker was Vicki Hess, who spoke about Professional Paradise and had the audience on their feet, cheering, clapping, and even dancing to her rap song!

WISCONSIN from Sue Edminster, President of WSHHRA:

The Wisconsin Chapter had one of our best conferences ever with 102 attendees present at our early April conference in ElkhartLake. With a theme of ‘Embracing Change,’ our keynote speaker Chip Madera inspired participants and set the tone for a great conference. Legal and Legislative updates were provided, best practices learnings were shared by four member organizations and structured roundtable discussions around interest areas were well attended. Once again the conference went ‘green,’ and handouts were available on our website for members to review.

We continue to develop the myashhra.org website for the Wisconsin Chapter. Job postings for Human Resource positions are now available at no cost to member organizations and Newsletters, Minutes, Pictures and key information for WSHHRA members can be found on this site.

Membership approved at our April business meeting to align our membership, fiscal and terms of office year for elected Board positions with the calendar year beginning in January 2011. This will allow for better congruency of information and aligns with the ASHHRA year.
