Class Objectives:
Through discovery, active learning, and trial and error, we will be focusing on truly understanding the mathematical concepts in this course. At the end of the year our goal is to have a firm foundational knowledge in preparation for Math 8, be fluent in mathematical language, and have the procedural skills to work through problems efficiently and effectively.
Class Policies:
- All school and county rules apply-see student handbook.
- Be respectful of property, time, and others.
- Be responsible (prepared and engaged in learning).
Class Procedures:
- Phones/electronic devices are not allowed in class unless we are using them in our lesson.
- Students should remain seated unless permission has been given to get up.
- The teacher will dismiss the class. I will tell you to pack up in plenty of time to get ready to leave.
- Textbooks will be used in class every day. Students are welcome to keep them in the room but if they choose to take them home, they must bring them to class each day.
- No food or drink in class except water, unless there is a health pass.
Consequences for not adhering to class policies and procedures:
1st offense-Conference with student.
2nd offense-Contact with parent.
3rd offense-Contact administration.
Grading Policy:
Based on a total point grading scale each quarter, grades will fall into one of the following categories.
Tests, Quarterly Project, Quizzes, Homeworks, Classwork
Cheating: Any student caught cheating will be automatically referred to administration.
Exams:
The math test will be administered on paper in three subparts during a single testing window. Students will not be allowed to use calculators during the first math subpart. The timing for Math 7 is as follows.
Subpart 1: 40 minutes (no calc)
Subpart 2: 30 minutes (calculator)
Subpart 3: 55 minutes (calculator)
Communication:
Communication is a key part to your child being successful. Many times, students will let you know that they are struggling with a concept before they will tell me. Please, feel free to contact me anytime you have questions or concerns. We all want to make sure your child is getting the best education possible. My email and phone number are on the first page. Many other programs will be used to help keep you in the loop of your child’s education: Email, Remind, Online grades, online textbook, etc. Remind emails – message , Remind texts – message @shallav to the number 81010
