2017 Fall Swim-a-Thon - Daniel Meyer Pool
Pledges due by Wednesday, 10/4/17
Why:Water Polo is a club sport and does not obtain operating funds from the school. Therefore, we must raise funds to pay for a coach, travel, pool time and other related expenses. The Fall Swim-a-Thon is the major fundraiser for our club. Registration fees alone do not cover the cost per player.
Benefits of Swim-a-Thon:
● Yardstick for personal accomplishment/perseverance- an experience that can be merchandised in a job interview or essay.
● Student-athlete ownership and participation.
● Builds community and team camaraderie
Minimum Pledge: $300 per swimmer, but please raise as much as you can. If the club raises $5000, we hope to obtain the same matching grant given last year of $5000 from the Gardner Grout Foundation. The Foundation has not committed to the grant for 2017, thus we hope to convince them to sponsor the club again by showing our work ethic. It is imperative we raise at least $5000 through our own efforts.
● Use “You Caring” online funding site via emails and Facebook
● Ideas for places to get pledges - churches, neighbors, businesses, bosses and yes of course friends and relatives.
● Easiest to secure a flat pledge and collect at that time. However, if you obtain pledges based on miles or lengths swam, this would require collection after the event date; explain that most kids swim a minimum of 150 lengths and some swimmers swim over 300 lengths. This can add up quickly so avoid surprises.
When: Due to capacity constraints, girls and boys will swim on different days. All are to show up for practice both days. Dry land training will occur for those not swimming.
Girls - Monday, September 18th @ 4-6:00 pm
Boys - Wednesday, September 20th @ 4-6:00 pm
What to Bring:
● Water bottle with fluids, this is an endurance swim and you will get thirsty.
● Towel.
● Be on time. The clock starts ticking on GO.
Where: Daniel Meyer Pool
Parent/Grandparent/Friends Volunteers Needed:
● We need at least 6 lap counters for Girls and 6 lap counters for Boys. Please email if you can help.
● Snacks for afterwards.
● Support your kids to get pledges. Asking for friends family and community to support exercising for a donation isn’t as hard as straight up asking for money.
Prizes: There will be prizes for the top fundraiser, and distances swam for boys and girls - they will be awarded after the donation cutoff.
