10x10 PLAYWRITING COMPETITION 2018

The Chesil Theatre’s 10x10 aims to discover, promote and produce the very best new writing of 10-minute plays. The ten winning plays will be performed back-to-back at the 10x10 New Writing Festivalin October 2018 where they will be given a full productionat the Chesil Theatre.

CRITERIA

  1. Submissions must be from the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland only.
  2. The competition’s theme is ‘Hidden Worlds’. It is up to the writer how this is interpreted.
  3. Scripts should have a running time of NO MORE than 10 minutes.
  4. Scripts must have a cast of NO MORE than 4 actors and only require minimum props, lighting and sound effects.
  5. Only one entry per writer is permitted (please note plays must be written by an individual writer and not co-written.)
  6. Submissions by email only to
  7. The subject line of the email should include the title of the play.
  8. Deadline for submissions is midnight, Friday 30 March 2018.
  9. Submissions must include TWO files, in either Word (doc or docx) or PDF format:
    i) A completed submission form (with your contact details)as one file;
    ii)The script(including a brief synopsis and a list/description of characters) as the second file.The writer’s nameand/or address MUST NOT appear anywherein the script.
  10. Monologues are NOT eligible.
  11. Scripts must not include roles for children under sixteen.
  12. Scripts must be clearly typed and set out in a professional script format with numbered pages and play title in footer/header.
  13. Scripts must be unperformed, unpublished original pieces of work and not under consideration by another theatre or company.
  14. All submissions will receive an email acknowledgement upon entry.
  15. The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence can be entered into regarding the judging process.
  16. The Chesil Theatre has the right to perform the winning plays, which may also be recorded, filmed and/or published by the Chesil Theatre.
  17. The ten winning plays will be announced around the beginning of September 2018.
