Why All Aboard?
Get all your training done in one weekend! Network, enhance your skills, get the latest Girl Scout information, and take time out for YOU.
Who attends?
All Aboard is open to all volunteers, parents and other adults who work with youth. You may choose to commute each day or spend the entire weekend at camp. In order to attend All Aboard, you need to be a registered member for the 2014-2015 membership year. Anyone registering for this retreat who is not currently a registered member of Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan will be charged the non-member fee (which will be an additional $5 to the registration fee). Registration for Girl Scouts who are out-of-council is not available online.

Online registration will be available and is highly encouraged for this event.
Online / or by going to and clicking on Register OnlineIf you are staying all weekend, and we hope you do, you will need to select theAll Meals and Lodgingoption in addition to your classes. When you are registering online, be sure the $25 fee for food and lodging is in your cart before you check out. If you will be attending only at certain times, you will select only the meals at which you will be present. The All Meal and Lodgingoption includes two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and all snacks. Please let us know in your Health History Form if you have any medical or dietary restrictions, including allergies. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Confirmations
Whether you register online or by turning in a paper registration form, you should receive an automated e-mail confirmation right away. Your All Aboard confirmation packet will be e-mailed or mailed out no later than two weeks prior to the event.
Housekeeping Information
When packing, please remember that you will be in a rustic camp setting or outside much of the time. There are heated cabins with bunk beds for sleeping and only some of them have indoor plumbing. All cabins have nearby out houses, and a heated bath house is near several cabins.Health conditions or limitations indicated on the Participant Registration Form/Health History Form are considered when making lodging placements. Ifyou have any questions or concerns about the facilities at camp, please indicate them on your Participant Registration Formor via email at , so we can address your concerns before you arrive.
There are two bedtime options listed on the registration form, be sure to indicate your preference:
- Early to bed: Quiet time after 9:00 PM
- Night Owls: No designated quiet time, but will be considerate of others
You are responsible for bringing your own bedding as well as all personal care supplies. It is typically 10-15 degrees cooler at camp. Please pack appropriate clothing and bedding so you are prepared for the weather. Please keep in mind that most of the cabins that are used for lodging are also used for classes during the weekend. Once you leave your cabin and head out to your classes, make sure you have your belongings put aside. In order to minimize class disruptions, it is suggested that you bring a bag/backpack to carry any personal items you might need during the day.
Carpooling
If you are interested in carpooling to the Camp Linden All Aboard Weekend or to the Camp MerrieWoodeAll AboardWeekend, please check the box in the Participant Registration Form. By checking it, you are authorizing us to share your contact information (name, e-mail, phone number) with other volunteers who are interested in carpooling. After checking the box, you will receive only by e-mail a list of other volunteers interested in carpooling. You may contact those volunteers and make arrangements accordingly.
Fun Times
The fun doesn’t stop after dinner at the All Aboard Weekends! It’s only the beginning! Activities are planned for Saturday night at both All Aboard events. These activities are a great way to kick back with your peers and continue the fun as you network with your sister Girl Scouts.

101 Ways to Use a Rubber Chicken: Using Props to Play!* (Nov 7/3:25-4:55 PM)
Adults and children alike seem to learn best when they are enjoying the learning experience. Think of times where you came away energized and motivated as well as informed. What was happening? Chances are you will remember experiences that clarified the points being made, metaphors that linked concepts to simple examples, props, gags, humor and insights about yourself. When girls participate in the learning experience, it provides additional opportunities to connect with them. And, if they feel “entertained,” they may be more receptive to the learning experience. Come play with us as we discover how to use props, humor, and other tools to positively impact the Girl Scouting experience. Participants will receive one rubber chicken, an idea booklet and suggestions, as well as a lot of laughs to take home with them. *Note: Additional fee: $5.00. CMW

Administrative Volunteer Meet Up(Oct 18/4:00-5:45 PM)
Learn more about what to do throughout the year as a member of the area management team. This is your chance to ask questions and to share solutions and ideas about your position. This is a highly recommended class for any area management volunteer, rookie or veteran, including, but not limited to Area Managers, Troop Organizers, Area Treasurers, and Area Registrars etc. CL
Advanced Outdoor Cooking(Nov 9/9:00 AM-12:00 PM)
This class is for those of you who already know the basics and want to learn some advanced outdoor cooking methods. You'll learn new techniques and recipes and you'll be excited to encourage your girlsto try new, advanced cooking methods. CMW
Advanced Trip Planning (Oct 17/10:00 AM-12:00PM)
Where do the girls want to go? Do they hope to take a tour of Europe or visit a Girl Scout World Center? Do they aspire to see Girl Scouts’ birthplace in Savannah, Georgia where it all began? This course will provide you with helpful hints for making sure that your older girl troop gets the valuable experience of planning, organizing and funding the trip of their dreams. Prerequisite: Trip Planning.CL

This class will give you a firsthand look on how the badges build on each other fromBrownie to Ambassador Levels. All leaders will benefit from the hands-on illustration of the progression in the artist badge, especially those with a multi-level troop or entering the next level of Girl Scouts.CL
Bag of Tricks(Nov 7/5:15-6:45 PM)
“HELP! The activity I planned for today finished early and I have time left in my meeting! What do I do with my girls?” Have you ever experienced that issue during one of your Girl Scout meetings? Well, you are not alone. This session will give you many productive, learning activities you can use to fill in the extra time when your activity did not go as long as you planned. These activities require little supplies and are easy for leaders to grab and use. Activities are geared mostly for Brownie and Junior levels. CMW
Basic Knots(Nov 8/3:00-4:30 PM)
Tired of your clothesline always falling down? Learn how to tie those basic knots (square, clove hitch, bowline, tautline) that every troop leader should know! Learn how and why these knots are necessary and walk away with the confidence you need to teach your girls basic knots too! CMW
Bronze, Silver,and Gold Awards(CL: Oct 17/1:40-4:40 PM; CMW: Nov 7/5:15-6:45 PM)
Explore the necessary steps for earning Girl Scouts’ most prestigious awards! Whether you lead Juniors (Bronze Award), Cadettes (Silver Award) or Seniors and Ambassadors (Gold Award), you want to have a basic understanding of what steps to take so you can be a resource for your girls. Note: Recent changes to the program will also be addressed. CL /CMW
Bullying(Nov 8/3:00-6:00 PM)
The media bombards us with bullying in all its forms: cyber bullying, mean girl syndrome, relational aggression…and the list goes on. Regardless of the label, bullying is unkind and shouldn’t be a part of girls’ everyday lives. In this course, you’ll learn how girls can stand up for themselves and their friends, deal with bullies and bossiness and how they can find a better way to interact in difficult situations. In addition, you’ll learn how you (as a troop leader or parent) can help your girl should she encounter a bully. CMW
Campfire Snacks (Outdoor Skills 2 Segment B) (Oct 17/8:00-9:00 PM)
Included in this class is how to lay a fire to produce coals for cooking and three cooking methods to use on a bed of coals; pie irons, stick and foil. You will prepare the ingredients and assist the other All Aboard attendees in making these snacks. Everyone is welcome to take this class.To earn certificationin Outdoor Skills 2 you must register and attend 5 segments (A-E).CL
Camping Roundtable (Oct 19/9:00 AM-12:00PM)
Roundtables depend on your active participation, so come and share your ideas on the why’s and how’s of taking your troop camping. Trade tips on preparation, planning, packing, playing and progression! This is youropportunity to ask your questions. Also, you can share your favorite camp swaps during "Show and Tell"! (Note-you will not be making a SWAP). CL
Celebration Exchange(Nov 7/5:15-6:45 PM)
Make the most of any celebration and learn tips on how to wrap gifts and arrange and decorate spaces for special events.Learn how to package gifts creatively, too, and share your ideas with others. As a 'take-away" gift for you, have fun with a few simple materials. Learn how to make elegant gift bags for special occasions (Christmas, Mother's Day, and the like). Your girls will love this, and so will you! CMW
Ceremony Kits*(Nov 8/4:50-6:20 PM)
Girl Scout ceremonies are a way for your troop to celebrate accomplishments and special Girl Scout days. This workshop will give you information on how to guide your troop in planning their ceremonies while you create 2-3 ceremonies kits that the girls can use to begin their planning. *Note: Additional fee: $7.00. Climbing Wall*(CL: Oct 18/2:00-5:45 PM; CMW: 1:00-4:00 PM)
Get a bird’s eye view of the forest as you conquer the climbing wall and reach the treetops of camp. Learn how to belay, give proper climbing calls and scale the wall at this action-packed event. *Note: Additional fee: $10. Min participants: 6 / Max: 15.CL/CMW
Cooking on a Camp Stove (Outdoor Skills 2 Segment D)(Oct 18/12:45-1:45 PM)
Learn the proper technique of using a propane stove when camping. You will prepare a simple one-pot recipe and no-cook treat for lunch. Be sure to bring your dunk bag (non-breakable plate, cup, bowl and silverware)!Everyone is welcome to take this class. CPR Review*(Oct 19/9 AM-12 PM)
The purpose of a review course is to provide individuals with the opportunity to review the course content within a class setting. This format optimizes the participants’ ability to successfully complete the knowledge and skills test. Participants will have the opportunity to review video segments, practice and perform skills from evaluation and complete the written exam. To be eligible to participate in a review course, your certificate must still be valid. Non-certificate holders, or those with expired certifications, may not participate in the review course option. *Note: Additional fee: $35.CL
Discover the Meadows (Oct 18/9:00 AM-1:30 PM)
Spend a morning hiking to less traveled parts of Camp Linden while gaining knowledge of games to do with your troop on a hike. Learn about appropriate equipment to bring, nature activities and special places around Camp Linden. You will eat a bagged lunch during the hike.CL
DIY Camp Gadgets(Oct 17/1:40 PM-3:45 PM)
In addition to great discussion and guidance on camping with girls, participants will be busy making gadgets to enhance their next camping trip. Camp gadgets you will be making or discussing how to create include but are not limited to: fire starters, bandanas, sit-upons, dunk bags, and more.CL
Dutch Oven Cooking (Outdoor Skills 2 Segment C) (Oct 18/7:00-8:45 AM)
We will learn to start charcoal without lighter fluid and prepare our breakfast ina Dutch oven using the charcoal as fuel.Proper dish washing process will be covered. Be sure to bring your dunk bag (non-breakable plate, cup, bowl and silverware)!Everyone is welcome to take this class. Everything Ceremonies (Oct 18/2:00-5:45 PM)
Planning ceremonies for all occasions involve resources, organizing, and creating. This class, for new and experienced leaders, will demonstratemany different ceremonies, as well as how to use different themes to make them fresh and meaningful over the years.You'll make a few crafts for ceremonies, and learn how to help girls create their own ceremonies.CL
Exploring the Girl’s Guide(CL: Oct 18/ 9:00 AM-12:00PM; CMW: Nov 8/3:00-6:00 PM)
This is your opportunity for a hands-on lesson on using the Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting at your grade level. In this class you will dive deeper into a great resource and leave with all the tools you will need to collaborate with your girls for a year of Girl Scout traditions, exploration, learning, and fun.CL/CMW
