Second Announcement and Call for Abstracts
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
As mentioned in the First Announcement, the Universities of Milano (Department of Occupational Health “Clinica del Lavoro L. Devoto”) and Verona (Department of Medicine and Public Health), jointly with the ICOH Scientific Committee "Aging and Work", the IEA Technical Committee ”Ageing”, INRCA (Ancona) and ISPESL (Roma) Institutes, are finalizing the organization of the 2nd International Symposium on Work Abilityof Ageing Workers.
We are very happy to inform you that more than 120 scientists from 27 countries have already submitted the preliminary application and most of them proposed an oral/poster presentation.
As already announced, the main topics of the Symposium are:
- Assessment of work ability in different occupations
- Factors affecting work ability and employability of older workers
- Promotion of health and work ability
- Evaluation of work-related problems of elderly workers
Specific topics will deal with:
- Early retirement
- Education and training
- Inter-individual differences
- Mental well-being
- Models to assess work ability and employability
- Performance efficiency
- Physical health
- Policies towards ageing workers

Language: The official language of the conference is English. There will be no translation facilities.

Abstracts
Deadline for abstracts is May 15th, 2004.
Abstracts should be submitted as Microsoft Word for Windows documents with a “.doc” extension, in A4 format, 3 cm margins, max 500 words, single space.
Title: bold, upper case, centred on the page, 14 point Times New Roman. Leave a blank line after the title.
Author(s)’ Surname and Name: lower case, centred on the page, 12 point Times New Roman.
Institution(s): lower case, 12 point Times New Roman, centred on the page. If there is more than one institution, use superscript numbers to link authors to their institution. Include only the institution, city, state, and country. Leave two blank lines before the text.
Text: lower case, 12 point Times New Roman, fully justified. Use the headings: Aim, Methods, Results, and Conclusions, typed in bold.
Please indicate the preferred mode of presentation using “Oral”, “Poster” or “either Oral or Poster”. Please note that final assignment of oral or poster presentation will be at the discretion of the organisers.
Abstracts must be sent to Daniela Fano (see Information).
Abstracts will be reviewed by the international scientific committee and acceptance will be notified by e-mail by June 15th, 2004. The presenting author must register for the conference by July 15th for the accepted abstract to be included in the final programme.
Proceedings
Manuscripts for the proceedings should be submitted during the Conference in hard copy + electronic form (text as a “doc” or “rtf” type file, figures as separate “jpg” or “tif” files).
Length: 10 pages (max) including tables, figures and references.
Format: A4 sheet, 3 cm margins, 12-point Times New Roman, 1½ line spacing.
The MS should contain the title of the article, author(s)’ name and surname, affiliation and full address of the author to whom communications and proofs should be sent.
It is recommended that papers be divided into the following sections: Summary (15 lines max), Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, References (according to the journal “Ergonomics”).
The papers will be peer-reviewed by the international scientific committee members and other experts in the field.
The Proceedings will be published either as a separate volume or as a supplement to a reputed scientific journal. Contacts are under way in this regard.
Oral presentations
Fifteen minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for question/answer will be allotted.
PC, overhead and slide projectors, and flipchart will be available.
Poster presentations
The posters (150 by 100 cm max) will be displayed during the entire Conference and will be discussed within the related sessions.
Registration
Please fill in the enclosed registration form and send it back, together with information of payment, to Conference Bureau: R.M. Società di Congressi (as indicated in the registration form).
Registration Fees
Early registration (before July 15th, 2004):400 Euro (for students: 250 Euro), VAT 20% included
Late registration (after July 15th, 2004): 450 Euro (for students: 300 Euro), VAT 20% included
The registration fees include: participation in the conference, abstract book, conference proceedings, lunches and coffee breaks for three days, and the conference dinner on Tuesday evening.
Students must send a declaration of their University/Institution concerning their current status
Conference Dinner
The conference dinner on Tuesday 19th is included in the fees. For accompanying persons the cost is 60 Euro (to be paid on site).

Refunds will be: until August 1st, 2004:90%

Transportation
By plane: Verona airport is connected by direct daily flights with the most important internationals airports: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Munich, Paris, Roma, Vienna.
By train: Verona is connected with all the major Italian destinations with frequent and fast trains. Verona is 1½ hour by train from Milano, as well as from Venice.
How to reach the city centre/hotels
From airport: you can take the Aerobus (4.20 euro) or a taxi (20-30 euro). The Aerobus stops at the railway station.
From railway station: it is very close to the city centre and you can take a city bus (1 euro) or a taxi to the hotel.
