OUGS Wessex Trip to the Lake District

We are fortunate as we will be led by Prof Chris Wilson (Emeritus Professor of Earth Sciences, Open University) & John Rogers (President, Cumberland geological Society)

The Itinerary will consist of 5 full field study days from Monday to Friday and focus on the Keswick, Shap and southern Vale of Eden areas. Lower Palaeozoic and glacial history of the Keswick area including the Borrowdale volcanics, the Shap granite and turbidite sequences, and finally the Carboniferous/Permo-Triassic succession in the Vale of Eden

Terrain – we will be walking over exposed and uneven ground.Hard hats Strong walking boots, warm and wet weather clothing is required

To secure a place please send the application form and fee £50 per person to Mark payable to Wessex OUGS number 2 account by 1st January 2018. Which is non-refundable unless another member can take your place. The balance will be due by 1stMarch 2018. The total cost will be £285 per person which includes the leaders expenses,breakfast, evening meal and accommodation.Should you require packed lunches this will cost an additional £30. Please indicate on the form below whether you would like packed lunches, as there is no guarantee that the Hostel will be able to provide one if you defer that decision until your arrival.Participants will have to make their own travel arrangements. We will be using our own vehicles on throughout the week and car sharing will be encouraged as parking is restricted at some locations.

We will be staying at the very scenic Derwent Independent Hostel. This is a Georgian House overlooking Derwent Water. We have secured accommodation for twenty persons. I stress that this is a hostel so accommodation will be in shared single sex rooms, which hold either 4 or 6 persons. There are only 2 twin rooms allocated to our party.
