Margaret Daniels Trophy 2012

We had an amazing 79 players turn out for the Margaret Daniels Trophy this year. It was a bit manic getting everyone registered and out for a shotgun start but we did it with time to spare! There was a bit of chaos initially with the buggies as some took one when they had not booked one or took one when they could not find their buggy partner. Lessons have been learned for next time!

Everyone seemed to enjoy the day - although not necessarily the quality of their golf! The sun beat down and it finished up a very hot day. The course looked great in the sunshine and played well with very little wind so we couldn't use that as an excuse. The greens were pretty slow as they can't be cut too low at present for fear of them getting scorched but everything else seemed good.

The golf was very sociable (we even met people from other groups whilst playing our holes which was probably above and beyond the call of duty on the social side!).

There didn't appear to be any major hold-ups on the course and everyone had completed their rounds and were int he bar by about 4pm for a well earned drink or two. Jose Carlos (and his team) served us with a free 'picnic' of tapas and paella. Thanks go to them all for looking after us so royally.

After a short break for freshening up, showers etc, we gathered again for the evening's celebrations. All the tables on the terrace were full with diners, extra tables and chairs were brought out to cater for the masses and the main event of the evening catching up with old friends and acquaintances alike continued. The bar was busy all night too and I am sure there will have been some hangovers around on Sunday morning (I know of at least one!).

Following the prize giving and drawing of the raffle, we were entertained by La Bandegoma - a jazz/swing band.

A great time was had by all. Thanks must go to - all who played especially those who had travelled from across Spain and Europe to attend. Thanks must also go to those who helped the day go smoothly - David and the Global Golf staff, Jose Carlos and all in El Cason. To Chris Hartley, Carole Eteson, Rachel and Nigel Bradbury for their help on the day. Of course, thanks should also go to Margaret who put in a a lot of time and effort into organising the day, getting prizes and sponsorship sorted and generally ensuring everything ran smoothly.

For sponsorship we must also thank - Irene and Arthur Rowley for their continued support, IRM/Global Golf, Hanne and Karsten, John Cook, Isaac Abad of Resortalia, Polaris World/Intercontinental, Palco (Avileses) and the Great Golf Shop.

Same time nest year?? Miss it - miss a great day!
