Numbers shorter again and another strong trade.
Friesian (10): Best bull calves topped at £130 and £160 for R J D Taylor, £92 and £105 from R H & M E Oughton. None under £48. October born weaned types £220 for Penfield Homes Ltd, £275 for P T Hinds.
Native Breeds (9): Angus bulls to £228 and £248 for J D Wright & Son, medium bulls £175. A single Hereford heifer £142 from M/s Logan.
Simmental (7): Best bulls to £355 from Lodge Farm Ltd, £175 - £250 for J L & S King. Heifers £175 from the same home and £235 for Lodge Farms. A single 3 month Simmental steer £425 from M/s Greenaway.
Limousin (5): Best fresh bulls £258 - £275 from R C Ponting & Son,£255 for C G Davies. Heifers topped at £260 for R A Williams, Tytherington.
Charolais (1): R A Williams consigned a good heifer to make £280.
British Blue (15): Bulls topped at £330 from M/s Logan & Son, Brinkworth, £265 - £312 from J D Wright. 6 bulls avg £284, young heifers to £210 and £220 for P J & S R Bennett, £190 and £198 from M/s Logan & Son. 6 heifers avg £197. Philip Hinds consigned 3 very smart Blue heifers (3 months) old to make £390 per head.

Limousin Cow & her Limousin bull calf sold to £900 from Mr P Carr, Aylesbury with a young Limousin heifer & her Limousin heifer calf sold to £690 from Mr C Phillips, Newent. Incalf cows saw Simmental’s to £630 from Mr H King, Witney & Aberdeen Angus cows to £610 from Miss J Curwen, Tetbury.

Averages: Steers £663, Heifers £617
A good entry and despite the fall in the beef trade and reports of lower trades for stores in other centres today’s trade was as strong if not a shade stronger.
The strong steers were again in short supply and sold to a very good trade topping at £1080 (165p/kg) & £975 (178p/kg) for Charolais steers from Mr J Randall, Warrens Gorse. Over 30 months steers sold to £935 (126p/kg) from Mr F Taylor, Stroud.
The strong Continental x heifers (24 – 28mnths) were also very short with the best over £900 topping at £960 (192p/kg) for Charolais heifers again from Mr J Randall & £930 (155p/kg) for British Blue heifers from M/s K Berry & Son, Coleshill.
The stronger, good shaped cattle (18 – 24 months) continue to meet a strong trade with the best Continental x steers traded generally between £750 - £850 (150p/kg – 185p/kg) topping at £975 (164/kg) for Blonde steers from M/s Watkins Partners, Rockhampton. A grand run of Continental steers from M/s G & J Hyett, Whaddon sold to a top of £940 (170p/kg). The native breeds saw Aberdeen Angus steers to £890 (168p/kg) again from M/s G & J Hyett with their Herefords to £850 (150p/kg). Friesian steers sold to £695 (107p/kg) from M/s G & F Bosley, Wantage.
The farming steers (15 – 18mnths) met a very good trade with the Continental steers £600 - £800 topping at £845 (161p/kg) for purebred Limousin steers from Mr C Goodman, Braydon with Saler steers to £830 (180p/kg) from M/s D & J Gilder, Winchcombe.
The heifers (18 – 24 months) saw the Continental heifers £650 - £750 (140 – 170p/kg) topping at £910 (184p/kg) for cracking Limousin heifers from M/s Watkins Partners, Rockhampton. The native breeds saw Hereford heifers to £725 (126p/kg) from Mr B Snell, Bucklebury.
The younger steers (10 – 14mnths) again continue to meet a very good trade with Continental steers to £705 (190p/kg) for a ¾ bred Limousin from M/s J & R Smith, Newport, £665 (167p/kg) from M/s J & V Hicks, Hook & £640 (138p/kg) for Mr J Adams, Clapton.
The heifers (12 – 15mnths) traded between £500 - £600 (140 – 160p/kg) generally topping at £710 (185p/kg) for Pedigree Limousin heifers again from Mr C Goodman, Braydon.
The weaned calves continue at very high levels with steers generally 160 – 230p/kg. British Blue x steers (3mnths) sold to £310 (300p/kg) from M/s A Gray, Brinkworth.

A short entry as number dry up nationally, trade was still strong on all forward with the best hoggetts in short supply topping at 177p/kg £62 for 35kg from Mr A Grindle. A run of small Welsh hoggs sold to 172p/kg from Mr D Poyner. The heavier hoggs sold generally between £75 - £85 topping at £100 for 67kg from M/s B & D Gilder. Hoggetts with broad teeth erupted sold to £50 - £65 topping at £70.

A reasonable entry of mostly stronger framed ewes met a good trade. The best Suffolk & Continental ewes traded between £74 - £90, Mules £60 - £65.
Half meated ewes seemed well sold trading between £60 - £70. Cull rams sold to £70. MORE EWES NEEDED EACH WEEK

A mixed entry with the few better sorts trading between 140 – 150p/kg with steers topping at 155p/kg for a 625kg Limousin from Mr D King with heifers to 168p/kg for a 670kg Limousin from the same home. The heavier cattle seemed well sold trading between 130 – 140p/kg. Also forward was mostly half meated Friesian steers trading between 95 – 110p/kg.

Numbers remain short but another strong trade on our final red market. 22 cows forward sold to an average of 90p topping at 148p, £1135.75 for G Lovell, Elmore. Friesian cows sold well with good meat topping at 113p pkg for D & M Whitcombe. Charolais to110p again for G Lovell. Best Friesians sold 101p plus, with medium cows in the 75-80p bracket. Native breed cows saw Angus to 109p for C B Powell & Son. Plainer cows traded in the 50-60p bracket. A smart run of overage Charolais steers from Clevancy Farms traded upwards of 125p topping at 130p for 750 to 775kg steers . A run of plainer unfinished Charolais traded 90-110p. Blonde overage heifers topped at 126ppkg for Messrs Millard Bros, Limousin from D S King to 118p, Welsh Black heifers to 90p for West Kingston Farms. 2 overage bulls saw Graham Lovells Charolais gross £1116 and a shorthorn from Sheepgrove Organics to £879. More overage cattle needed with seven firms of buyers in attendance.
