Coach Donohoe Biology Week 6

WEEK 6 Sept. 26 - 30, 2016 Venn diagrams, review for first six weeks test, lab using scientific method, Six Weeks Test
Monday Sept. 26th / Tuesday Sept 27th / Wednesday Sept. 28th
Materials/
Curriculum / Venn diagrams: understanding and creating. Data sheets from which to create the Venn diagrams.
Once students are working on Venn diagrams they will be informed of the grades for the six weeks. / Review for the six weeks test
Test will be on Thursday.
Quiz over Scientific Method: notes
/ Questions answered from review??
M&M, paper bags, lab instruction sheet, notes over the Scientific Method
Academic Vocabulary / Question, observation, hypothesis, experiment, data, analyze, conclusion, variable, control, / Vocabulary from first six week assignments. / Monday’s words and independent and dependent variable.
TEKS / 2GH / All TEKS covered for six weeks / 2BEFGH, 3ABC
ELS TEKS / 4F / 4F / 4F
Objectives/
Learning Intentions / Learn how Venn diagrams work and their purposes. / Students should participate in the review, take notes, check papers in class notebook, ask questions, etc. / Practice creating hypothesis and following the SM steps. Repeat as needed.
Lesson Introduction
(Bell Ringer, etc.) / Bell ringer: elements of the Venn diagram / Bell ringer: Venn diagram / Bell ringer: Venn diagram
Lesson / Students will be given a set of data on a Venn diagram. They are to interpret the data. / Students will be informed of topics over which the test will cover. We will speak of test taking strategies and understanding the time each student will need to study.
RETAKES ON FRIDAY. / Students must be paired. They will be given a paper bag with M&M in it. They are to create three hypotheses about the M&Ms inside their bag: 1) how many?, 2) What colors?, 3) Which type of M&Ms? Then their partner will reveal if they have any correct and which ones. Any hypotheses incorrect should be tried again. Repeat as often as need to get all three right. Then they will reverse roles. They should report their activities on a SM lab outline. You should create a Venn diagram showing your results. Finally, they may eat their M&M’s.
Lesson Assessment / What was the accuracy of the Venn diagram worksheet. / Test made from DMAC.
Students test results. / Their understanding that there is skill involved with any experiment. And that presentation of results is important. That there are various ways to solve problems.
Lesson
Re-Teach/ Extension / The class will grade the worksheets as a re-teach and answer any questions or misunderstandings. And if any further instruction is needed. / A re-teach opportunities will be given Friday during tutorial periods. Appointments should be made to retake. / Reteach process as pairs work through assignment.
Homework / Should finish, but if not students will complete any part of the assignment not completed in class.
Study for Scientific Method test tomorrow / Study reviewed topics / Study for test.
