FALL 2010 Sports Highlights
Girls Basketball
The success of the 2010 girls basketball team marked a historic event in Beverly Hills High School sports as the Lady Normans won a CIF State Championship game for the first time, defeating defending Division IIIA Champion, Woodbridge, 77-64.
The Normans compiled a 21-13 record led by sisters Miranda and Jaina Abdul-Mansour, point guard Natalie Moy, center Chelsea Austin, and Lisa Kliman. Without 2009 first team All-Southern Section Division II-A starting forward, Morgan Mason, for most of the season, it was truly a team effort. Chelsea Austin and Miranda Abdul-Mansour were selected to the All-CIFDivision IIA team for 2009-2010.
Boys Basketball
It was a dramatic turnaround for the varsity boys basketball team as the Normans record improved to 13-15 overall and 3-7 in Ocean League play. Last season, the Normans were4-22 overall and 0-10 in Ocean League play. Coach Boldon was optimistic about the team’s chances at the beginning of the season. “We’re looking a lot more competitive, and we’re doing a better job of executing plays and a better job of defending and rebounding.” This marked turnaround was led by senior forward, Markus Silbiger, sophomore guard, Austin Mills, and senior forward, Bo Abrams. It was a team effort as Kiam Alam, Michael Pedram, Trevor Walters, Greg Townsend, Farzan Azinkhan and Aurash Jamasbi rounded out the top players.
Boys Soccer
Coach Rappaport sized up the boys varsity 2010 soccer season as “an unlucky season”. We didn’t give up a lot of goals, but we didn’t take advantage of our many opportunities and score enough either”. The team ended the season 9-10-4 and finished fourth in league. According to Rappaport, “the seniors leaving are a great bunch of kids who gave everything for the program on and off the field.” During the season, Rappaport acknowledged his squad as “one of the best defensive teams, at this point, since I have been coaching here.” This year’s team was led by the defense, All-CIF senior sweeper Jonas Brock, All-Ocean League junior stopper Shaya Noorian, senior Willy Woods and sophomore Caio Carvalho. All-Ocean League sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Davidov set many records during the season. The key performers at forward and in the midfield were seniors Parsa Peykar and Spencer Weissberg, juniors Mariano Gonzalez, Josh Newman, and James Karlin and freshman Elijah Lichtenberg.

Girls Soccer
Faced with a young team of mostly freshman and sophomores, coach Franks coached the varsity girls soccer team to an overall 12-8-3 record (6-2-2 in Ocean League play) and the first post-season win in the last five years. Returning captain Solange Levy led the team once again. Other leading players included Ashley Aviram, Kaela Resfelt, Mashar Zargar, Tiffany Moore, Melody Termechi, Nicole Star Tylor Fields, and Ida Trevino and Kylei Colvin as goal keepers.
Girls Water Polo
Girls water polo finished a promising season at 17-12. A strong, veteran team returned led by Mallory Smith, Alli Friedman, Patty Salgado and Young In Lee. Agnes Rapala returned with another solid season in goal. Rebecca Yukelson, Agnes Rapala, Ava Rezai and Lorrain Oill alsohad strong performances. The Lady Norman water polo team finished the season 3rd in Ocean League and beat Santa Monica for the first time in school history.
Wrestling
This year’s wrestling team expanded from 40 wrestlers and one coach to 60 wrestlers and two coaches.The wrestling team expects to continue to grow as well over one half of the 60 wrestlers are freshmen and sophomores. Six members of this year’s team participated in the CIF tournament in mid-February and three (Matt Flagel, Romeo Soofiani and Armond Farrokh) advanced to the CIF Southern Section Championships where they won three, two and two matches respectively. Other top performers included Josh Rezvani, Skylar Lucci and Payton Bahk. Coach Mead remarked, “This is great for us. We have not had so many wrestlers going to CIF in recent memory.”
