How to Produce a Video with 2 Coaches (v.1.2)

Videos with 2 producers are especially popular in our communities, and are offered quite frequently. This guide shows you how to produce such a video and what to watch out for. As a foundation, you should already have read the guides Recording with Camtasiaand Editing Video with Camtasia.

1. How do I record a Partner Video?

A partner video is recorded in just the same way a regular live video is. However, in order to cut the 2nd producer in, you would need to use a tool that lets you cut a skype conversation between the two producers.

This software is called Pamela (Link: Pamela lets you mix in Skype conversations and save them as wav files. Pamela costs about 15€ ($20). Producers who wish to use Pamela for such a production, receive a paid-for license from PokerStrategy.com in the form of reimbursement into your account. You would need to buy the software first, then forward the invoice to us.

2. How to configure Pamela

Before the first recording, you should modify the settings for the Installed Codecs for Audio Recordings, as show in this screenshot.

Go toMain Menu > Extras > Options.

In the Options menu, go to Advanced > Sound.

Here, select „Built-In Wave Plugin“.

Now the settings for the selected audio codec have to be modified. Click Configure Codec.

- Sound Codec: PCM

- Sampling Rate: 22,050 kHz; 16 Bit; Mono

If you’re using alternative codecs such as LAME, you can also choose higher quality options to some extent. Just make sure that what you choose for the „Sampling Size“ is supported by Camtasia. The „Bitrate“ should be set to the hight the highest possible setting. However, you should not need more than 320 kbps, and it’s usually not offered.

3. Setting up dual videos with Camtasia

Once started, Pamela will record all ongoing and new Skype conversations, and save them locally in any folder of your choice, as *wav files. We recommend, that after you start recording, maintain complete silence for 7-15 seconds. This will help you easily identify the correct spot on the recording later on, when you want to cut video and audio together.

3.1 Loading video and audio into the Timeline

Next, open the *.camrec file in Camtasia Studio, as described in the guide Editing Video with Camtasia, and drag this into the Timeline close to the bottom. In the File menu or with the keyboard-shortcut Ctrl+I you can import additional media.

In the dialog box that comes up, open the *.wav that was saved by Pamela from the Skype conversation. Drag this new audio track into the timeline as well. Finally, you should be looking at 2 audio tracks and 1 video track in the timeline, as seen in Illustration 3.

3.2 Cutting video and audio

Now you only have to synchronize the video and the recorded Skype-conversation (audio).

With the timeline’s zoom function, you can quickly find the longish silent streak that you built into your recording. Before you cut this off and discard it, you should lock the video track and its audio track, by clicking the little lock icon on the left-hand side (see screenshot). Now they are safe, you can cut off and discard the long silence on your Skype recording, by highlighting the stretch using the ruler, and then clicking on the cutting-icon.The highlighted area is blue (see screenshot).

Next, synchronize the video track with its audio track by lining the two up. With practice you can line them up quickly and accurately. When you can hear the greeting 2x and not sounding out-of-sync, they are lined up correctly. When the Skypetrack (audio track 2) is also in sync with the video track, you can proceed with the cutting of the video track on both ends.

Lock the Skype track for safety before you cut the video track. Now you can slice off the ends of audio track 1 and the video track, as shown in Illustration 5.

Keep the Skype track locked for safety, and use the timeline slider to select the entire audio track 1. Use the „Replace with silence“button – this will replace the entire audio track 1 which came with the video with silence. If you now play the timeline, you will only hear the audio from your Skype conversation, in sync with the video. Finally, you can render the video together with this Skype-track as a finished *.avi file.
