SCHOOL-BASED CHILD PROTECTION and ANTI-BULLYING POLICY
- Definition of Bullying
Bullying is defined as any severe used by an individual or group of individuals of a written, verbal, electronicexpressions, physical act or gesture or a combination, towards another individual that may frighten, hurt or harm the person, emotionally or physically, therefore creating a hostile learning and working environment.
The following are acts considered as bullying:
1)Physical-punching, pushing, shoving, kicking, tickling, teasing, fighting, playing tricks, and used of objects as a weapon.
2)Verbal- slanderous statements, accusations, negative comments about the other’s physical appearance, use of foul language or bad words, and even shouting towardssomeone.
3)Cyber- bullying or any act of bullying with the use of technology or any electronic means, such as texting, email, instant message, chatting, social media, online games and the likes.
4)Any act that causes harm to the victim’s well-being, emotionally, socially, gender-related and the likes.
B. Scope of Prohibited Acts
1) Acts of bullying stated above are prohibited in the following locations and situations:
a)Inside the School campus
b)Immediately outside the school gate and immediate promises of the school.
c) School related activities done outside and inside the school.
d) Any act that creates a hostile environment to the victim.
2) To do something bad or to get revenge to someone or person who reported a bullying case or the one who provides information about the case is considered as another form of bullying.
C. Procedure for Immediate Response and Reporting System for Bullying Cases
1) The victim of bullying or anyone who witness the act of bullying or incident must report the incident immediately to any school personnel.
2) The school personnel or any school authority who receives the report must intervene by:
a) Stopping the bullying immediately
b) Separating the individuals(students) involve
c) Removing the victim or the cause of bullying (respondent) from the site
d) Ensuring the safety of the victim by treating first aid if needs medical attention
e) Bring the respondent/s to the adviser or guidance counselor.
3) The victim or the witness to the bullying can also report and give alert to the class officers, SSG officers, and/or PTA officers.
4) To encourage reporting and prevent retaliation, the witness will be protected by giving anonymity.
5) If the incident involves student/s from another school, the administrators of the said school must be notify about the incident to take necessary measure.
6) The principal/ School head is immediately inform about the bullying incident.
D. Disciplinary Sanctions / Actions for Bullying Cases
1) During investigations, class adviser together with the school head discuss the act of bullying done and as effect/s to the victim. Depending on the weight of the bullying, the respondent/s may be given the following sanctions:
a) Verbal and/or written warning.
b) Cleaning of Comfort Rooms, School Ground, or Water the Plants.
c) Community Service.
d) If done twice and not solve by the school authorities, the parents attention will be called.
2) The class adviser with the school head arranges and facilitates a dialogue between the victims and the respondent to give the respondent an opportunity to ask apology or forgiveness and promises not to commit the act again.
3) The students involve will be closely monitored by the adviser.
4) If bullying incident will result to physical injuries or even death, the School Head will immediately report to the law enforcers,BLGU, and /or PNP and will be dealt in accordance with the law.
