Requirements:
Select oneout of the four essay questions listed and develop a clear debate with reference to relevant primary and secondary texts to support your work. Additionally you should include appropriate illustrations to assist in the contextualisation and analysis of the work under discussion.
The Brief:
1. Discuss and analyse a piece of work in reference to the following statement by Walter Benjamin:
Even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art is lacking in one element: its presence in time and space, its unique existence at the place where it happens to be. This unique existence of the work of art determined the history to which it was subject throughout the time of its existence. (Benjamin 1973:214)

2. Select one of the lecture topics from semester one from which to explore and analyse the work of a single artist. You should restrict your analysis of their work to a key period and consider how it could be analysed and discussed from different perspectives.

4. How have the critical debates and visual practices relating to the representation of the body been discussed and engaged with? Looking at your subject or a related area you should consider how the body either as a physical, mental or visual form has been engaged with.
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this module, the students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the contextual framework of own subject study area
- Demonstrate research and study skills
- Demonstrate an ability to construct a well structured and informed critical and theoretical analysis of own work and that of others, both orally and in writing.
Assessment:
You are required to present a 2,000 word essay, typed and illustrated and bound on your chosen subject. The essay must be fully referenced and include a bibliography following the Harvard System of referencing.
