Library Council Visit Our New Library
Neston High School Library Council made a visit to their new library on Friday 31st March after their incredible fundraising efforts. Members meet throughout the year to discuss the library and the profile of reading in school but this meeting was quite special. Since January, members have been discussing their new library in our new school build. Discussions led members to agree to raise funds to begin improving the new library before it had even been built!
The Library Council sprang into action with cake sales, raffles, sponsored swims, sponsored chores at home, bingo nights and competitions. Swiftly, the team raised over £700. Miss Pearson, school librarian, was so impressed with the efforts of the council that a visit to see the new build was arranged with Mr Randerson.
On the day the team walked out of our existing building on the very short trip to our new build site down the road. After safety videos and safety gear we were off onto the site. Mr Randerson was our tour guide and kindly took us around a range of spaces which included labs, the dining hall, activity studios, and classrooms and most importantly to our eager council, the library. The space seemed huge when we walked in and looked up at the double height ceiling. We could see down into the dining hall below from windows along the left side of the space and started to get an idea of what our new library will actually be like. The library council were stunned to be standing in a space we had only seen on paper plans and yet had discussed so much. They were really there and already talking about how best to use the space and promote reading and literacy in school.
Miss Pearson said ‘It was an unmissable experience for us all to be standing in the space that will soon be our new library. These students have gone above and beyond to improve our current library and are already keen to get started on their new library. I would like to thank them for their incredible support and championing of the library and look forward to working with the team to make our new space an inviting and exciting reading community.’
