DELIVERY NOTES
This brochure is designed to help develop an understanding of the Junior Rowing Leaders Award. It contains all the information you need to deliver the award.
The Junior Rowing Leaders Award is an introduction to planning and leading an Indoor Rowing Event. It can be used as a stepping-stone towards officiating, coaching and sports leadership.
The Candidate will receive a handbook for recording their award – which is also to be filled in and signed by the Course Leader
To deliver this course it may be advantageous to have either 12 months experience of the ARA Go-Row Programme, or to hold either an ARA coaching qualification or a Concept 2 Instructor’s qualification.

N.B. JRLA Course Leaders must ensure that all participants have adequate insurance cover for the activities which they will be carrying out. It is anticipated that school insurance will cover activities within schools but this must be confirmed before courses commence.
MODULE A - PART 1 - Understanding the sport of rowing
An explanation of the Go-Row Dry Award Scheme can be found in the following resources: -

The candidate will need to know that the Indoor Rowing Club may be run differently at each venue, and an explanation of the School or Club’s structure for running and organising theirs will be necessary.
Information, leaflets and video footage of the British Indoor Rowing Championships are available from Concept 2 Nottingham. See Appendix 1 for an order form for Go-Row Resources.

There are different types of competition, information about these can be found from the following sources: -
- Dry Speed Awards – (pages 3,4,12,21,22 Coach Instructors Handbook)
- ARA Go-Race Video
Events can be over set distances (e.g.2000mtrs) or set times (e.g. Dry Speed 2mins), they can be individual or team events or they can be Slider Rowing or E-Row.
Competitions can be those such as the British Indoor Rowing Championships or National Go-Row Competitions.
There are promotional videos, posters, booklets and downloadable packages available free and for purchase from Concept 2’s web site to enable the running of these events.

MODULE A - PART 2 – Being Safe/Risk Assessment
Information for delivering this part of the Award is available from the following resources: -

An explanation of any local arrangements for the School or Club will also need to be given.
MODULE A PART 3 - Assessing Abilities On An Indoor Rowing Machine

MODULE A - PART 4 – Organising an Indoor Session
For delivering this part of the Award the following resources are available: -

The Evaluation (page 13) of the candidate’s experience of organising and running the sessions and event is the key part of this module and time should be taken to discuss any potential problems or any good practice.
MODULE B - Planning Your Own Go-Race Indoors Event
For delivering this part of the Award the following resources are available: -

A certain amount of assistance and guidance may have to be given to some candidates, this is acceptable – but the outcome for this Award is for the candidate to be able to run sessions and small events themselves with appropriate qualified adult supervision.
Upon successful completion of the sessions and event the candidate and deliverer should sign and return page 16 to: -
