Focuses on four critical areas: 1. developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships. 2. Operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations. 3. Solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume. 4. Drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

7th Grade English Honors 52001 7 Year This course will be for the student that excels in Language Arts. It will include more in depth reading, writing, thinking and communicating.

Creative Writing 52133 7,8,9 Sem
Creative Writing will explore different genres of writing with the main goal of inspiring amazing ideas and constructing original pieces. Students will use their imagination and experiment with multiple writing techniques. Students will work with multiple genres and appropriate literary devices to make something new and different, blending real-world experiences and memories to form imaginative pieces.
Keyboarding I 28165 7,8 Sem
This is the beginning course in keyboarding. Correct fingering by touch operation and good techniques will receive primary emphasis; speed and accuracy will be given secondary emphasis. The following skills will be taught: alphabetic and numeric keys; speed and accuracy development, and proper technique. The acquisition of business communication skills will be integrated throughout the course.
Art Foundations A 32210 Sem
This is an introductory visual arts class, with an emphasis on studio production. We will use a variety of art mediums while we learn about the 7 art elements. There is a fee for this class.
3-D Art 32108 7, 8 Sem
This course exposes students to basic processes and techniques of creating art objects out of paper, clay, fabric, fiber, and more. Students will learn the importance of good craftsmanship and how to listen carefully and follow directions. In addition, they will learn the cultural and historical significance of various craft objects and construction methods. There is a fee for this class
Drama 1 A 32110 7, 8, 9 Sem
An introductory course which covers some basic performing skills. Students will work on such things as pantomime, storytelling, and acting. The focus will be improving acting skills, while at the same time, helping students feel more at ease when performing in front of others. It is hoped that students will leave the class with more self-confidence and a basic understanding of theater. .Fee required.
Beginning Woodwinds 32155 7 ,8 ,9 Year
This course is open to students interested in learning to play the flute, clarinet, saxophone, or oboe. Home practice and attendance at concerts is required. Instruments are available through rent to own programs at local music stores and a limited number of instruments are available for rental through the school. No prior music experience is required.

Beginning Brass 32156 7,8,9 Year
This course is open to students interested in learning to play the trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone or tuba. Home practice and attendance at concerts is required. Instruments are available through rent to own programs at local music stores. French horns, baritones, and tubas are available through school rental and a limited number of trumpets and trombones are available through school rental. No prior music experience is required. There is a fee for this class.
Beginning Percussion 32237 7,8,9 Year
This course is open to students interested in learning to play percussion instruments including drums and mallet instruments. Home practice and attendance at concerts is required. Percussion practice kits are available through rent to own programs at local music stores. Students will use larger school owned instruments in class and will pay a fee to help purchase and maintain these instruments. No prior music experience is required. There is a fee for this class.
Gateway DM-ST 84079 7,8 1st Semester only
In the Design and Modeling unit, students apply the design process to solve problems and understand the influence of creativity and innovation using Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) principles. Students will build and test a cardstock skimmer vehicle. Also, each student will create a personalized 3D design and model utilizing a 3D printer. Students will also design, model and test a compressed air dragster. In the Science of Technology unit, students will explore applied chemistry by making ice cream and test glue. They will also experience the simple and compound machines of applied physics by building and testing their own spring scales. Nanotechnology will also be explored in this class. Fee and eye protection required for this class.
Beginning Orchestra 32450 7, 8 Year
This course is open to all students interested in learning to play the violin, viola, cello or string bass. No previous experience is necessary. Violins, violas and cellos may be rented from local music stores. Cellos and basses may be rented from the school. Students learn to produce a clear tone, count basic rhythms and play in five keys. The class presents simple literature in group performances. The Music Department has a limited number of rental instruments available. Concert attendance required.

Beginning Choir (Soprano – Alto) 32265 7 Sem
No prior music experience necessary
This course introduces girls to the fundamentals of singing and musicianship. Emphasis is placed on proper singing technique, music reading skills, and ensemble participation. The choir will perform at one concert each quarter. There is a fee for this class.
Beginning Choir (Tenor - Bass) 32267 7 Sem
No prior music experience necessary
This is a vocal class open to boys who desire to learn and sing choral music in the tenor/bass range. It is designed to train voices to sing parts and prepare to audition for our select choirs. In class we will work on music reading skills, rhythm, and using vocal exercises to build voices and confidence. The choir will perform at one concert each quarter. There is a fee for this class.
Spanish I 35210 7, 8, 9 Year
This is the beginning course in the Spanish language. Emphasis is placed on learning to speak Spanish, with some reading and writing in the target language. Students also participate in activities to learn about countries and cultures where Spanish is spoken. Students who speak Spanish or hear it frequently at home should skip this course and take Spanish 2.
German I 35230 7, 8, 9 Year
This is a beginning course in learning the German language. Students learn basic vocabulary and phrases through activities such as role plays, skits, dialogues, songs and games. Emphasis is on understanding spoken German as well as learning conversational speech.
Reading for Life 52018 7,8 Sem
Avid readers elect this class for the opportunity to read more for pleasure and to increase their reading comprehension and fluency by experience and practice. The course also accommodates lower-than-grade-level readers because goals for reading achievement are individually based. (Students who read two or more grades below grade level, however, should enroll in Read for Success.) Course objectives include reading, thinking, comprehension strategies and focus on reading for different purposes in a variety of text structures.
Read for Success 52014 7,8 Sem
This course is for struggling readers who are not enrolled in Resource reading. Course objectives include reading, thinking, study strategies and reading for different purposes in a variety of text structures. Readers acquire more fluency by practice within an environment that fosters reading for pleasure. Goals for reading achievement are individually based.
College and Career Awareness 43155 7 Year
College and Career Awareness offers exploration and preparation in college and career pathways focusing on jobs that are high skill and high demand, as well as satisfying and financially rewarding. The College and Career Awareness course is designed to help students identify their interests, abilities, and skills. With appropriate developmental information related to careers, educational pathways, and self-knowledge, students are able to begin to make college and career goals for the future. College and Career Awareness is designed to acquaint students with the Utah labor market and the employment opportunities for which they can prepare by defining a College and Career Ready Plan.
Class changes will only be made under extenuating circumstances and at a cost of $10.00. The classes you select now will become your schedule for next year so please choose wisely.
