Veteran’s Interview Project

No one student may interview the same veteran as someone else

Part I: Interview: conducted between August 29 – October 17

Schedule an interview as soon as possible

Be prepared with interview questions, paper, pencil, or recording device

Listen carefully to your veteran’s answers and take detailed notes

Thank your veteran for his/her participation and set up another interview appointment (if necessary)

Part II: Veteran Photograph

Photograph Requirements

If possible, photograph should show your veteran in his/her uniform

Mount picture on computer size patriotic colored paper

Include typed heading and quote underneath photograph

Heading - Centered underneath photograph

Veteran’s rank and name: Lt. Col. Willard Jones

Branch of military: U.S. Army

Years of service: 1941-1958

Interviewer: Susie Smith

Quote – Centered underneath heading

Following the heading, include a memorable quote from your veteran

Example: “We all had the thought of staying alive.”

Due on October 10

Part III: Written Report

Heading - Centered on top of first page

Veteran’s rank and name: Lt. Col. Willard Jones

Branch of military: U.S. Army

Years of service: 1941-1958

Interviewer: Susie Smith

Format

Write the question using bold text

Write a detailed answer, using normal text, in first person (veteran’s point of view)

Format

Font size: 12 point

Font type: Times

Spacing: Single spaced [add a space after each question/answer]

Length: At least three pages; maximum five pages

Use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation

Personal statement

Write a well developed paragraph describing your reaction to this experience

Place on the last page of your interview. This page can include part interview, part reflection

Typed copy of interview due on October 17 for editing

Revised Interview due on October 24

Part III: Celebration - Thursday, November 10

Invitations will be provided for you to mail no later than September 26

Sign up to bring food, drinks or paper products on October31

Food will be breakfast items [i.e. muffins, donuts, milk, croissants, etc.]; no soda pop, chips, candy, or other similar foods [if you’re unsure - ask!]

Wear nice clothing. Boys may wear slacks, collared shirt, belt, tie. Girls may wear skirts, dresses, blouse, nice pants. By dressing up we will show our respect and appreciation. Suggest that your veteran wear his/her uniform to our celebration.
