ACID ZINC PROCESS UNIZINC ACZ 550

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:UNIZINC ACZ 552: Slightly brownish Liquid.

UNIZINC ACZ 554: Slightly yellowish Liquid.

DESCRIPTION:

The new low foamingUNIZINC ACZ 550 process do produce full bright to brilliant,

ductile zinc deposits from Potassium- and Ammoniumchloride based acid zinc solutions.

It exhibits excellent throwing and covering power and therefore can easily be used for both rack and barrel plating over a wide range of zinc metal contents.

The produced zinc coating can easily be chromated.

EQUIPMENT:

Plating tanks should be lined with an acid resistant plastic coating. Anodes must be

99.99 % zinc. For still operation cathode and/or air agitation is recommended.

Heating, cooling and filtration facilities should be available.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:

Cathode Current Density:0.2 - 8 A/dm²

Voltage:3 - 8 Volts

Temperature:20 - 50° C

Efficiency:85 - 95 %

pH:4.8 - 6.0

MAKE-UP OF A PLATING SOLUTION:

Chemicals should be dissolved in 50% of the required amount of water.

(Temp: 40 - 50° C).

After filling up to final volume with cold water, pH should be adjusted.

UNIZINC ACZ 552 (Wetting Agent) and UNIZINC ACZ 554 (Brightener) should

be added to the newly made-up plating solution.

BATH COMPOSITIONS:

Potassium-bath:

Zinc Chloride50 - 80 g/l

Potassiumchloride130 - 200 g/l

Boric Acid25 - 30 g/l

Ammonium-bath:

Zinc Chloride50 - 80 g/l

Ammoniumchloride100 - 150 g/l

MAKE-UP:UNIZINC ACZ 55230 - 60 ml/l

UNIZINC ACZ 5541 - 2 ml/l

Above mentioned bath formulations are typical plating solutions, which can be changed according to different requirements.

MAINTENANCE ADDITIONS PER 10.000 AH: RACKBARREL

UNIZINC ACZ 552Wetting Agent1 - 1,2 l1 - 1,5 l

UNIZINC ACZ 554 Brightener1 - 1,2 l1 - 1,5 l

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Since acid zinc processes in general have no inherent cleaning power, like those of cyanide solutions, it is very important that the work entering the plating tanks should be thoroughly clean. pH value of the plating solution should be checked and kept at a constant value. Small, frequent brightener additions should be made, to insure continued good plating results.

Parts, which may have fallen into the plating tank, should be taken out immediately, to avoid metallic contamination.
