This is a scholarly report of the individual and collective scholastic achievement and innovative activities by Phi Delta Chi Chapters to promote academics and improve scholastic standings amongst the Brothers. The Albert Benjamin Prescott Scholarship Cup is named after our first Chapter Advisor, Dean Prescott, of the University of Michigan. Prescott was an innovator in pharmacy education, who took pharmacy from an apprenticeship-based training to a formal curriculum that we employ today. Until the initiation of the Emory W. Thurston Cup in 1974, the Prescott Scholarship Cup winner was considered the best of all our Chapters in the whole country. Even today, the Prescott Cup and Hollenback Scholarships provide a special "glow of the lamp" to the winning Chapter.
WHAT TO SUBMIT:
Your report should discuss events that have occurred between November 2016 - October 2017. The judges suggest that you include the following according to the stated criteria:

Programs promoting scholastic improvement and achievement

Describe academic support programs that your Chapter has implemented or continued to improve the academic success of your candidates, Brothers, and other students at your campus. Include academic training programs, speaker programs, study tables, tutoring, Chapter's academic resources, study incentives, and any innovations your Chapter has developed. Indicate how many or what fraction of Brothers participated in each program. State the number of people served by these programs and provide evidence of scholastic improvement as a result of these programs. If it’s a professional project, describe it elsewhere, not in this report.

Chapter recognition of scholastic improvement and/or excellence

Describe how your Chapter recognizes the academic excellence of prospective members, collegiate and alumni Brothers, and other pharmacy students through awards, incentives, scholarships and other forms of recognition. For scholarships and awards, include the criteria on which they are based (i.e., financial need, highest grade in pharmacy).

Outcomes of scholastic achievement by the Chapter

Quantitative measurements of Chapter's scholastic achievement. Include number of Brothers in Rho Chi, on Dean’s Lists, receiving academic scholarships (not scholarships based principally on financial need), or other academic honors and awards in comparison to total Chapter membership. Also include comparative data such as candidate class/Chapter G.P.A./Q.P.A.'s and other quantitative indicators of individuals and Chapter academic successes. Focus on scholarship. Do not include memberships in APhA-ASP, Phi Lambda Sigma, or other non-scholastic organizations, lest the judges conclude you haven’t read the instructions.
Inclusive programs and events
Chapters are highly encouraged to hold events that are inclusive not only to collegiate Brothers, but also to Alumni Brothers and prospective members.

Do not let the content of the report exceed 6 pages in length, this limit does not include cover pages, table of contents, pictures, etc. The entire report should be no more than 10 pages. The judges are looking for a professionally and concisely written report describing your activities. Creative programs and academic successes are more important than creative writing. ITEM #14: Risk Management/Personal and Brotherly Responsibility/Crisis Management (3 points total)
At the 58th Grand Council (Baltimore, 1991) the Brotherhood voted to adopt a Risk Management Policy. By establishing this policy, the fraternity is reducing the likelihood that any legal problems or personal injury will occur during a Chapter function. At the 61st Grand Council (Ft. Lauderdale, 1997) the Personal and Brotherly Responsibility Program (PBR) was adopted to serve as a code of conduct for the Fraternity. At the 66th Grand Council (West Palm Beach, 2007) the Policy on Electronic Portrayal of Phi Delta Chi was added to the Risk Management Policy. At the 67th Grand Council (Phoenix, 2009) the Brotherhood voted to adopt insurance coverage for all Collegiate Brothers. As part of this coverage it is required that all Brother’s are aware of their Chapter’s Crisis Management Plan. In November 2015, a Risk Management Investigation Enforcement Policy was adopted by the Executive Council.
It is absolutely necessary that we work together in implementing these policies both at a national and local level. The National Office expects full compliance with these policies.
In order to facilitate the understanding and importance of Risk Management by all PDC Brothers, each Chapter is asked to do a professional project concerning topics found within our Risk Management Policy. This project can be done for your Chapter, school, or community. The topics should be of concern to your Chapter.
The Personal and Brotherly Responsibility Program (PBR) was designed as a code of conduct for the Fraternity reminding us that we are our Brother’s keeper. Individual Brothers sometimes forget that actions speak louder than words and poor judgment can reflect badly on the Chapter or Fraternity, even though the Brother was acting as an individual. Some behavior at Regional and National meetings has caused the National Executive Committee to expel Brothers from the meeting due to inappropriate behavior. Phi Delta Chi is, after all, a professional fraternity. It should be noted that “professional” comes before the word “fraternity.” Read through the PBR exercise and discuss the implications of it to your Chapter.
Your Chapter must also complete the following Risk Management exercise during an October formal or regular meeting. Please answer the questions as honestly as possible (your answers will not affect points received for the Achievement Awards).
Additionally, the Chapter must have a Crisis Management Plan in place for the Fraternity’s insurance coverage to be effective. This document details how each Chapter should have an emergency plan, what to do if something happens that involves either and emergency or the insurance company, and who to contact. This document can be found online at the national website, and must be customized and distributed to every Brother at the Chapter, including the Chapter Advisor.
Copies of the Risk Management Policy, the Personal and Brotherly Responsibility Program, and the template for the Chapter’s Crisis Management Plan can be printed from the national website at
Risk Management Exercise (1 point):
Read the Risk Management Policy aloud or pass out enough copies for each Brother to read it to himself or herself. Copies can be printed off from the national website at Complete the following questions:
Describe a function your Chapter held which followed Risk Management guidelines in the past year.
Thinking over the past year, describe a situation where you may have broken the Risk Management guidelines.
If you had this situation to do over again, how could you have followed the guidelines?
Personal and Brotherly Responsibility Program Exercise (1 point):
Read the Personal and Brotherly Responsibility Program aloud or pass out enough copies for each Brother to read it to himself or herself. Focus more on the behavior and cause of the behavior instead of the individual person involved. Use the Basic Expectations of Brothers as a guide. Ideally, the conversation should be facilitated by the Chapter Advisor, WCC, or a senior Brother. Copies can be printed off from the national website at Complete the following questions:
What kinds of behavior have you seen displayed at school, regional, or national meetings that you thought reflected badly on the group? Note: the individual person need not be identified, just the behavior.
What, if anything, happened to correct the situation? .i.e. how was it handled. How could the person involved be held responsible for the behavior?
Why do most people act like silent observers, instead of trying to rectify the situation? Why is it difficult to be the responsible party?

Are there any precautions that the Chapter can take to stop inappropriate behavior when planning events?

I verify that the Chapter of Phi Delta Chi has completed this exercise and will comply with the Risk Management Policy and the Personal and Brotherly Responsibility Program.
Worthy Chief Counselor:
Date Policy was read and discussed with Chapter:
Crisis Management Exercise (1 point):
Due to the Fraternity’s insurance coverage, there is a requirement whereby all Brothers must be aware of your Chapter’s individualized Crisis Management Plan. Please personalize the Crisis Management Plan document available at the national website, for your Chapter (including filling in emergency contact numbers for your Chapter). Please distribute a completed copy of this document to every Collegiate Brother at your Chapter including your Chapter Advisor and review this document during an October formal or regular meeting.
I verify that the Chapter of Phi Delta Chi has completed this exercise and that each Brother at the Chapter including our Chapter Advisor has received a copy of this completed document.
