Age Limits for the Driving of Small Boats

Children younger than 16 years

The boat should not be longer than 24 ft. or be equipped with a motor of not more than 9,9 hp. The max. speed has to be 10 kts. Parents are responsible, that their children have sufficient skills to drive the boat.

Personnel older than 16 years

Personnel older than 16 years of age are allowed to drive a boat up to 45 ft. of length if they have sufficient skills for responsible driving. There are no further restrictions in size and speed.

From a length of 45 ft on, the master of the ship needs a license. He/she has to have an international boat licence and must be able to show it, if requested by the authorities

Speed Limitations:

Always follow the indicated speed restrictions. 5 kts is the max. speed in the vicinity of bathing sites, if closed less than 150 ft.

Boat traffic is allowed only outside the areas indicated by yellow buoys. It is additionally strictly forbidden to secure the boat at the buoys.

Safety Equipment:

It is ordered by law to carry onboard safety equipment for all crewmembers. The owner and the master of the ship are responsible that the equipment is available and easily accessible on board. The authorities will punish violations. Please pull on your life belts! Life belts not used will help nobody in case of emergency!!

Alcohol and Driving:

The master of the ship is considered drunken, if the concentration of alcohol in the blood is more than 0.8 %o or the consumed amount of alcohol is as high as this concentration might be reached. Violations will be punished up to imprisonment.

In Case of Emergency:

The Rescue Organization is on alert 24 hrs. per day, to save lives or to salvage injured persons in case of emergency. Call : 113.

Fishing:

Fishing with Fishing rod

In salt water, it is allowed to fish from small boats. Fishing from land with rod is also allowed over the year. Instead of a fishing rod, one may use a fishing line. Fishing charge will be claimed, if one is older than 16 years of age and fishing for salmon and salmon trout.

While fishing from a boat it has to be recognized, that the above species are under legal protection from 05 August to 31 May.

It is prohibited by law ...

  1. To close less than 20 yds. or to fish within 100 yds. of salmon farms, trawlers, fixed-nets, which are,

linked to the shore with ropes ore otherwise. In case of damage, you will be made liable for the caused damage.

  1. To use explosives for fishing.
  1. To use living bait.
  1. To catch sea fish and crabs with spear, eel-fork or artificial light.
  1. To leave equipment in the water, this may cause damage and harm to fish or other sea population and may damage other fishing equipment or boats.
  2. To leave equipment, rigging or similar on the surface or the bottom of the sea.

Lobster Fishing

The fishing season for lobster on the Skagerrak shore is actually from 01 October to 31 December (incl.).

S E A M A N S H I P

1. Always use a certified boat.Carry with you the necessary equipment, such as: dipper, oars, tiller, ropes, anchor, and a signal lamp.

  1. Notice and consider the relevant weather reports and weather conditions. Use your boat only in suitable and not in dangerous waters.
  2. Officially certified Safety Equipment for all crewmembers necessary.
  3. Show respect towards others and the environment. Deposit your garbage properly.
  4. Only rested and sober you will be able to drive a boat responsible.
  5. Leave a message where you intend to go and when you will be back. Carry charts and a compass onboard.
  6. Behave calm in small boats. If you change seats, do it one by one. Use shoes with rubber sole.
  7. Carry certified fire extinguisher on board. Read the instructions beforehand.
  8. If you capsize, stay with the boat and call for help.

Follow the traffic rules and give way well in advance.Recognize the speed restrictions under any circumstances.

F I R E S A F E T Y

  1. Do never handle fuel or oil careless.
  2. Electric equipment as electric range, boilers are only to be installed and repaired by experts.
  3. Combustible liquids are to be stored in certified canisters and secured against rolling and tipping over.
  4. Always have an ( at least) 4 lbs. fire extinguisher on board.
  5. Ventilate the engine room. “Sniff” for leaks if necessary.
  6. Use the “Choke” only if necessary
  7. Stop the engine immediately when liquid is pouring out somewhere.
  8. When filling up the tank with oil or fuel, stop the engine and avoid open fire. Have a fire extinguisher at

hand.

  1. If you have fire on board, the fuel tank may explode. Keep your safety equipment easily accessible and be prepared for leaving the boat.
  2. Close all tubes for gas, fuel or oil before you leave the boat. Empty all ashtrays.
