Juror: Donna Zogatta: Active professionally for more than 20 years, Donna Zagotta is a nationally recognized artist, teacher, and juror. She has accumulated numerous awards including the first place awards in the 2005 Arizona Watercolor Assoc. Exhibition and the 1997 Watercolor West Exhibition, the second place award in the 1999 National Watercolor Society Exhibition, and the Samuel Leitman Award in the 2008 and the Ogden and Mary Pleissner Award in the 2000 American Watercolor Society Exhibitions.. Her work appears in numerous publications and can be seen on the cover of Watercolor Expressions and The Artist’s Magazine. She was Watercolor Magic Yearbook 2001’s “One’s to Watch”. And she was featured in Watermedia Focus magazine as “An Artist Worth Noting”. Donna has been teaching classes and workshops since 1990 and she served as one of the jurors for the 2002 National Watercolor Society Exhibition.
Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years or older, living in the United States. Paintings must be primarily aqua media (watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempera, water based ink, and water-soluble crayon or pencil) over natural or synthetic paper (e.g., cotton, pulp, silk), matted and framed under clear acrylic or glass. Water-soluble oil media are not allowed. If pastel or paper collage (created by the artist) is used, they must be in conjunction with aqua media and the aqua media must be the dominant element. Work is limited to two entries per artist. Works previously shown in an AKWS juried show or done under instruction (e.g. during a class or workshop) are not eligible. Works must be original, at least 8”X10” and less than two years old.
Submission Information: Pictures must be in JPEG format on a PC formatted CD (compact disc) with 1200 pixel resolution on the longer side. Image must be correctly oriented (vertical or horizontal). Show the full picture without frame or mat. No digital enhancement is allowed. Filename must include title of painting. Label your CD, using permanent marker with the artist’s name and painting title.
Entry Information: The nonrefundable entry fee for current AKWS Members is $25 for up to two paintings, and $50 for nonmembers. Checks payable to Alaska Watercolor Society must accompany the entry form (no cash please). Entries must be received by June 5, 2013, with no entries accepted after this date. No hand delivered entries will be accepted. Enclose a SASE for accept/decline notification. Entry CD’s will not be returned.

Framing: Artists whose entries are accepted must submit paintings matted and framed under clear glass or acrylic (Plexiglass). Arcylic glazing is required for any shipped pieces. Mat surface must be white or off-white. If using double matting or colored-core mat board, the visible colored area must be ¼” or narrower. Artwork must be
presented in a professional manner. Frames should be no wider than 4”, simple and consistent with framing seen in fine art galleries. Paintings must be pre-wired for hanging. No uniframes or saw-toothed hangers are allowed.
Delivery: All entries must be hand-delivered for award selection and hanging. Artists interested in shipping art for this show should contact Linda Zeigler Parrigin @ 907-317-3516 or E-mail @ . All entries will be handled with the greatest care, but neither AKWS nor the gallery will be responsible for loss or damage. Artist submitting works should carry their own insurance.
Conditions of Acceptance: Award selection will be made by the juror, Donna Zogatta will judge from the actual paintings on July 29th, at the First Congregational Church. Any painting that does not comply with eligibility rules or is not identical to the image submitted will be disqualified and returned to the artist. Artists whose accepted works are not received for exhibition will not be eligible to submit entries to AKWS Juried Shows for 2 years (2014 &2015).
Sales:
Works need not be for sale. A 25% commission will be retained by the Anchorage Museum at
