Did you know that annual direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer’s disease to business are $61 billion? 5.4 million people in the U.S. now have Alzheimer’s disease and the number is rapidly growing. Though Alzheimer’s disease usually strikes persons age 65 and older, 67% of their caregivers are “in career” ages 35 to 64. Impact on a business’ bottom line is strong and measurable: greater absenteeism to render care for the parent with Alzheimer’s disease, lost productivity and, potentially, a caregiver’s greater use of the employer’s health plan. Only eight states have a higher incidence of Alzheimer’s than that within our Chapter’s service region.
Our services make a difference; allowing caregivers to better maintain their employment, reduce illness due to stress and exhaustion, and to decrease their need for employer paid health benefits or state and federal resources.
