Why get involved with Shelter?

More than one million people a year come to us for advice and support via our website, help lines, and national network of services. We help people to find and keep a home in a place where they can thrive, and we tackle the root causes of bad housing by campaigning for new laws, policies and practice.

The campaigns team leads Shelter’s public-facing campaigning to change how people think about housing, and change how governments respond to the housing crisis. We manage campaign strategy and planning, using audience insight in choosing how best to reach people; we are responsible for overall positioning and message of our campaigning; we manage multi-disciplinary project teams from across the organisation; we look after Shelter’s activist and campaigner base. As you would expect, our work targets national and local government – but just as importantly, it targets business and consumer behaviour and the general public’s attitudes and beliefs that sustain bad housing.
