Report: Ian Exley
Sixty five main course riders tackled a four lap ten section course set out by Leigh Bell & Ian Exley on the Saturday. Overnight rain made the going a little more difficult with a few sections having to be altered but full credit to all riders who finished the course.
Lee Dando riding his first trial for several weeks due to illness proved he still has Got what it takes by winning the novice course by a comfortable margin from Stephen Jarman. Another comfortable winner was Mark Hartley on the middle Route who halved runner up Ian Exley’s score. On the beginner’s route is was a much tighter affair with Mick Ellis taking the win by one mark from
Adrian Brayshaw. Earlier in the morn twelve future little superstars tackled the Conducted electric course and what an exciting battle it was for the premier spot Taylor Crossland out on her new bike for the first time was not only top girl out of the three competing but had a three way tie with Henry Stephenson & Joshua Mcparland for the overall win all managing to stay clean. Myles Hutchinson took his little 12.5 OSET round for a fantastic 4th overall with Sienna Exley 5th and Taylor’s brother Charlie completing the top six.
As for the adults, Section 1 presented them with a steep climb up a rock filled gully didn’t cause too many problems on the Middle & beginners course with the majority of riders getting at least one clean. The hard course exit was higher up the stream and only seven cleans were recorded. Section 2 observed by Tim Page had a tricky drop into the narrow stream followed by a tight turn up a rock step then back down the stream to another tight turn and the ends flags. Lee Dando recorded the only cleans of the day (3 of them) with Stephen Jarman next best with four dabs. Dave Loney was waiting at section 7 which was the hardest of the trial. 100 yrds of a steep dry stream bed where you had to be line perfect to record a clean. The loose rocks and pot holes punished a lack of concentration with a 3 or 5.

Many thanks to the land owners, observers and officials. Section 8 had to be scrubbed from the results as the scorecard was unreadable. Unfortunate heavy overnight rain made today's trial a little more difficult than normal, still we hope you enjoyed it. The course plotting team aim to make the next novice and beginners a little easier ;)
The next spen valley trial is the Reg Drake Trial, which is a Round of the Yorkshire Centre Championship. To be held at Harden Moor on Sunday 4th September 2011, trial starts at 11:00 am.
