DUTY POSITION
JOB DESCRIPTIONS
As with the active duty Air Force, responsibilities and duties increase with rank. Each cadet is expected to prepare to assume additional responsibility and authority along with higher positions in the corps of cadets. The following job descriptions outline the major duties of each leadership position contained in the Unit Manning Document (UMD).
CADET WING COMMANDER (CWG/CC)
The Cadet Wing Commander is responsible for:
•(1)Overall command and control of the Wing, working through the commander's staff and subordinate commanders.
•(2)The appearance, discipline, training and conduct of the unit.
•(3)Assisting the instructors in conducting leadership training.
•(4)Establishing and posting goals to be met by the Wing.
•(5)Inspecting and evaluating all staff functions.
•(6)Convening cadet personnel/evaluation boards as required.
•(7)Administering group activities according to AF principles and procedures.
•(8)Follow up action on delegated actions from staff meetings.
•(9)Ensuring all members of the Wing have the opportunity to develop leadership commensurate with their individual abilities.
CADET VICE WING COMMANDER (CWG/CV)
The Cadet Vice Wing Commander is responsible for:
•(1)Assuming command of the Wing during the absence of the Wing Commander.
•(2)Assisting the Cadet Wing Commander as directed.
•(3)Coordinating the Cadet Wing staff.
•(4)Presiding over cadet personnel/evaluation boards as required.
•(5)Establishing special committees and monitoring their progress.
•(6)Preparing and coordinating agendas for weekly staff meetings with the SASI and/or ASI at least one day prior to meetings.
•(7)Keeping the Cadet Wing Commander informed of all activities.
•(8)Tracking staff attendance at Wing staff meetings and recommending corrective action, when required, for excessive absence.
SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE SASI/COMMANDANT (SA)
The Special Assistant to the SASI is responsible for:
•(1)Completing any duty assigned by the SASI/ASI.
•(2)Assisting any cadet who has difficulties with the AFJROTC program.
•(3)Observing and evaluating the progress of the cadet corps in accomplishing its mission and advising the Cadet Wing Commander.
CADET WING CHAPLAIN/MORALE OFFICER (CWG/CH)
The Cadet Wing Chaplain/Morale Officer is responsible for:
•(1)Coordinating all group activities pertaining to charities and community service
•(2)Planning and coordinating all Wing activities of a religious or spiritual nature
•(3)Assisting in maintaining discipline, appearance, efficiency and training standards of the Wing as required
•(4)Delivering inspirational service as required for corps dining-outs, awards ceremony, and other corps activities
•(5)Serve as the primary project officer for dining out and/or military ball
•(6)Develop an activity plan that will improve cadet morale
•(7) Publicize cadet extracurricular and co-curricular activities in corps, school, community and AFJROTC publications and news media
•(8) Accomplish after action reports and continuity files
•(9) Assist with fund raising activities
CADET PUBLIC AFFAIRS CHIEF (PA)
The Cadet Public Affairs Officer is responsible for:
•(1)Supervise flight cadets
•(2)Enforce appearance, discipline, training, and conduct standards
•(3)Write and publish a periodic cadet newsletter
•(4) Maintain group history
•(5)Maintain group scrapbooks
•(6) Maintain group bulletin boards
•(7) Publicize timely newsworthy items about cadets in corps, school, community and
AFJROTC publications andnews media
•(8) Attend group staff meetings
CADET SAFETY OFFICER (SO)
The Cadet Safety Officer is responsible for:
•(1)Conducting and documenting safety inspections of cadet facilities as required or directed and reporting all safety violations to the Wing Commander.
CADET WING SENIOR ENLISTED ADVISOR (CWG/SEA)
The Cadet Wing Senior Enlisted Advisor is responsible for:
•(1)Acting as a liaison between the Wing staff and the general corps of cadets to ensure proper upward and downward flow of information.
•(2)Calling and conducting NCO staff meetings as necessary to ensure proper support is being provided to corps activities and to the Wing Commander.
•(3)Directly supporting the instructors in planning and coordinating leadership and fundraising activities.
•(4)Providing written input from staff meetings to the Information Management NCO.
GROUP POSITIONS
CADET OPERATIONS GROUP COMMANDER (OG/CC)
The Cadet Operations Group Commander is responsible for:
•(1)The appearance, discipline, effectiveness, training and conduct of the Cadet Mission Support Group.
•(2)Planning, coordinating and maintaining records of all Wing curricular and extracurricular activities. (Participation in school and community events, Curriculum in Action trips and events, Awards and Presentations, social events and Wing inter-flight competitions)
•(3)Assisting instructors in scheduling and planning details for field trips.
•(4)Keeping instructors and cadets informed of all activities (having cadet participation statistics published after each event).
•(5)Assisting instructors and Wing Commander in training of the cadets and conduct of all Wing activities.
•(6)Recommending and training a replacement in the duties and responsibilities of the Operations Group Commander.
•(7)Recommending and training Drill Team and Color Guard Commanders and overseeing the operations of both teams. Ensuring Flight Commanders and Flight Sergeants are properly trained.
•(8)Performing other duties as assigned by the CWG/CC.
CADET DEPUTY OPERATIONS GROUP COMMANDER (OG/CD)
The Cadet Operations Group Deputy Commander is responsible for:
•(1)Assuming command of the Group during the absence of the Group Commander.
•(2)Assisting the Group Commander as directed.
•(3)Coordinating the Group staff.
CADET ATHLETICS OFFICER (PT/)
The Cadet Athletics Officer falls under the OG/CC and is responsible for:
•(1)Ensuring a high level of morale and esprit de corps is maintained.
•(2)Promoting high levels of physical fitness within the Wing.
•(3)Testing cadets to meet requirements for the Physical Fitness Ribbon and attendance to Summer Leadership School .
•(4)Operating a voluntary cadet physical fitness program, including supervising stretching exercises prior to any physical activity.
•(5)Posting current health awareness information on the cadet bulletin board.
NOTE: May have permanently assigned, to assist in duties, at least on specialist at the minimum rank of SSgt. Additional personnel of any rank may assist as needed.
CADET RECRUITING SERVICES OFFICER (REC)
The Cadet Recruiting Officer falls under the OG/CC and is responsible for:
•(1)Ensuring school recruiting supplies (brochures, sign up cards, applications etc) are in abundant supply
•(2)Assemble a list of cadet volunteers to attend school visitations and the CPS HS Fair
•(3)Assist the cadre in school visitations
NOTE: May have permanently assigned, to assist in duties, at least on specialist at the minimum rank of SSgt. Additional personnel of any rank may assist as needed.
CADET COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER (SVC)
The Cadet Community Services Officer falls under the OG/CC and is responsible for:
•(1)Assisting the Service Learning Manager (as requested) at the AFAHS in advertising and tracking opportunities available for cadets in meeting their CPS required service learning hours.
NOTE: May have permanently assigned, to assist in duties, at least on specialist at the minimum rank of SSgt. Additional personnel of any rank may assist as needed.
CADET GROUP SENIOR ENLISTED ADVISOR (OG/SEA)
The Cadet Group Senior Enlisted Advisor is responsible for:
•(1)Acting as a liaison between the Group staff and the general corps of cadets to ensure proper upward and downward flow of information.
•(2)Calling and conducting NCO staff meetings as necessary to ensure proper support is being provided to corps activities and to the Group Commander.
•(3)Directly supporting the instructors in planning and coordinating leadership and fundraising activities.
CADET SUPPORT GROUP COMMANDER (SG/CC)
The Cadet Support Group Commander is responsible for:
•(1)Standardization and evaluation of the cadet group as directed by the Wing Commander.
•(2)Ensuring the documentation and recording of all personnel and historical information on Wing activities.
•(3)The appearance, discipline, effectiveness, training and conduct of all the Cadet Support Group.
•(4)Recommending and training a replacement in the duties and responsibilities of the Support Group Commander.
•(5)Assisting instructors in scheduling and planning details for field trips.
•(6)Performing other duties as assigned by the CWG/CC.
CADET DEPUTY SUPPORT GROUP COMMANDER (SG/CD)
The Cadet Support Group Deputy Commander is responsible for:
•(1)Assuming command of the Group during the absence of the Group Commander.
•(2)Assisting the Group Commander as directed.
•(3)Coordinating the Group staff.
CADET SUPPLY OFFICER (CWG/SUP)
The Cadet Supply Officer falls under the SG/CC and is responsible for:
•(1)Assisting the Uniform Custodian with the receipt, issue and accountability of all uniform items, equipment and supplies required for operation of the Cadet Wing.
•(2)Assisting the cadre with inventories and maintaining cadet supply records in accordance with appropriate.
•(3)Organizing and supervising the maintenance, repair and cleaning of cadet facilities, uniforms, supplies and equipment.
•(4)Advising the Cadet Wing staff on proper supply discipline.
•(5)Coordinate cadet training on inventories/CIMS/CyberCampus with the cadre.
NOTE: May have permanently assigned, to assist in duties, at least on specialist at the minimum rank of SSgt. Additional personnel of any rank may assist as needed.
CADET PERSONNEL OFFICER (CWG/DP)
The Cadet Personnel Officer falls under the SG/CC and is responsible for:
•(1)Maintaining cadet personnel files and ensure personnel folders are promptly posted. This includes changes in grade, rank and other personnel actions.
•(2)Maintaining attendance records for Wing Staff meetings and other meetings related to Cadet Corps activities.
•(3)Preparing and posting the promotion orders.
•(4)Serving as a member of cadet personnel boards as directed.
•(5)Providing personnel records to the cadet personnel board if required.
•(6)Preparing written input from staff meetings to the flights for dissemination.
CADET GROUP SENIOR ENLISTED ADVISOR (SG/SEA)
The Cadet Group Senior Enlisted Advisor is responsible for:
•(1)Acting as a liaison between the Group staff and the general corps of cadets to ensure proper upward and downward flow of information.
•(2)Calling and conducting NCO staff meetings as necessary to ensure proper support is being provided to corps activities and to the Group Commander.
•(3)Directly supporting the instructors in planning and coordinating leadership and fundraising activities.
SQUADRON POSITIONS
CADET SQUADRON COMMANDERS
The Cadet Squadron Commanders are responsible for:
•(1)Appearance, efficiency and training of the squadron and the discipline of squadron members during flight drill and in the academic classroom.
•(2)Leading and directing the squadron at all unit and squadron functions.
•(3)Establishing goals to be met by their squadrons.
•(4)Keeping the cadet squadron personnel files current.
•(5)Advising the Operations Group Commander with written or oral reports of squadron personnel matters.
•(6)Providing written input from staff meetings to their respective squadrons.
CADET SQUADRON FIRST SERGEANTS
Cadet Squadron First Sergeants are the Squadron Commanders' primary assistants. Their responsibilities include:
•(1)Forming cadets for leadership training.
•(2)Preparing the Squadron for inspection.
•(3)Acting as Squadron Commander in the commander's absence.
•(4)Holding all squadron cadets to the high standards of personal conduct and discipline required for the flight's success as part of the Cadet Wing.
•(5)Assisting the Squadron Commander in keeping the classroom in good appearance.
•(6)Assisting the Squadron Commander with the maintenance of all cadet squadron records.
•(7)Assist the Squadron Commander as required.
FLIGHT POSITIONS
CADET FLIGHT COMMANDERS
The Cadet Flight Commanders are responsible for:
•(1)Appearance, efficiency and training of the fight and the discipline of flight members during flight drill and in the academic classroom.
•(2)Leading and directing the flight at all unit and flight functions.
•(3)Establishing goals to be met by their flights.
•(4)Keeping the cadet flight personnel files current.
•(5)Advising the Operations Group Commander with written or oral reports of flight personnel matters.
•(6)Providing written input from staff meetings to their respective flights.
•(7)Needs to notify cadets in their flight of the number of demerits they each have.
CADET FLIGHT SERGEANTS
Cadet Flight Sergeants are the Flight Commanders' primary assistants. Their responsibilities include:
•(1)Forming cadets for leadership training.
•(2)Preparing the flight for inspection.
•(3)Acting as Flight Commander in the commander's absence.
•(4)Holding all flight cadets to the high standards of personal conduct and discipline required for the flight's success as part of the Cadet Wing.
•(5)Assisting the Flight Commander in keeping the classroom in good appearance.
•(6)Assisting the Flight Commander with the maintenance of all cadet flight records.
•(7)Assist the Flight Commander as required.
CADET FLIGHT GUIDON BEARER:
•(1)Accomplish duties of guidon bearer described in drill and ceremonies manual
•(2)Retrieve, post, and retire flight guide as directed in class and during formations
•(3) Lead the direction of march for the flight
CADET ELEMENT LEADER:
•(1)Assume duties of flight sergeant in their absence
•(2)Supervise element members
•(3) Report roll
•(4)Maintain cleanliness of area occupied by element in class
•(5) Train element members
OTHER SPECIALTY POSITIONS
CADET NCOs IN CHARGE (NCOICs) – If used
Cadet NCOICs are assigned to assist the officers of each major corps activity. Their specific responsibilities vary according to their duty positions, but each is the senior enlisted member of their officer's staff and perform whatever is required to ensure the success of their mission. Generally, they directly supervise most or all other enlisted members of the officer's staff.
Cadet Drill Team (DT/CC) and Color Guard (CG/CC) Commanders:
•(1)Write operations plans covering membership and operations policies and procedures
•(2)Organize and train team members for competitions and performances
•(3)Publicize team activities in corps, school, and community publications/news media
•(4)Raise funds to support activities
Cadet Kitty Hawk (KH/CC), Model Rockety Club (RT/CC) and Orienteering Club (OC/CC) Commanders, Radio Controlled Airplane Club (RC/CC)
