I. Title Page – EMPACTS for Dummies by Alan Hiatt, Anita Marshall, Allyssa Riley, Dixie Androes (mentor)
II. Introduction– Students often feel overwhelmed, unprepared, or are simply not motivated or wired for a project-based learning. Their group experiences may have been negative. To overcome pre-project jitters, our team has addressed the basics in a entertaining format.
III. Project Overview–Create an instructional powerpoint using cartoons, movie clips, or other non-threatening object lessons to teach the EMPACT strategy.
IV. Project Objectives or Goals:
The project objective is to impress upon students the purpose, value, and importance of working together, using technology, serving others, and applying content or skills knowledge learned in their course in an effective, non-threatening format.

- Vista and Window 7 software
- Learned embedding techniques, Used text message translator
D. Skills you developed as a team and as individuals ie….
- Team – leadership initiative, different learning styles, social norms of others, empowering each person to succeed, equal work
- Individual – learn it, apply it, teach it (our motto)
- Technology – collaborative online work, Word/Vista/Windows 7; movie software, snip-it, screen capture, using templates
- Communication – focus on strengths, creative ideas, collaboration, task-driven
- Organizational – equal labor, equal contribution, equals good organization – divide and conquer
V. Methodology: How did you do it?
- Outline objectives, define EMPACTS, delineate student ‘questions”
- Personnel and Division of Labor – each person took a section of the EMPACTS presentation and a student question to illustrate.

VI. Project Results: What did you do as a team? What did you experience? What did you gain?
- Product – created a powerpoint with imbedded videos, cartoons, etc.
- Process - experience – We experienced many of the emotions or feelings from a student’s perspective;we addressed these concerns and questions; we grew from our experience as EMPACTS participants
VII. Future Project Ideas: How could a future group expand on the project that you started?
With our short time frame, we have many thoughts for improvements. The framework could be adapted by instructors to include specific ideas that apply to their specific subject area.
