Happy New Year To All Families! Wishing you a year filled with happiness, love, peace and good will.As communicated to you in December, the next full newsletter will be in February. Please note some additional items for January:

  • SNACK PROGRAM: Please note that our snack program will begin on January 11th and will only be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Junior Kindergarten registration begins on January 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Please register online at
  • Graduation pictures for both Senior Kindergarten and Grade 8 will be on Monday February 1, 2016. Information will be sent home closer to this date.
  • Morning Prayers: The last Friday of every month the Our Father and Hail Mary will be recited in a different language. As this is the Year of the Family, we are respecting the diversity of the families within our school community.
  • We welcome Ms. A. Caringi who is our new Physical Education and Health Teacher. Ms. Caringi will be at SPB on Fridays.
  • Our Italian Instructor, Signora Major, has been on a leave of absence. She will be retiring this month. We wish Signora Major best wishes as she begins this new chapter in her life.
  • Ms. Fernando, our ECE in Room 123, has finished her Long term Occasional assignment at SPB. We thank her for her dedication to our school. We welcome Ms. Taborda ( ECE) back to Room 123.
  • Please keep in your prayers our Grade 3 teacher, Ms. Franzese and our clerk typist, Ms. Lumia who are on Leaves of Absences.
  • Winter weather has finally arrived. All students will be outdoors for all recesses unless the weather is dangerous, extremely cold or wet. Please ensure that your child comes to school every day prepared for outdoor play to allow him/her to get fresh air and exercise. All students should be wearing boots, winter coats, hats, gloves/mitts and scarves. Snow pants are always a good idea to allow the children to enjoy our Canadian winters and to stay warm and dry.
  • Indoor shoes are needed for all students. Dry running shoes are necessary for the gym as this will allow your child a dry, safe floor to run on and to play on. Running shoes are necessary as they are safe for physical education. Dry shoes are also needed for the classrooms/portables as boots leave puddles on the floor and this is a safety issue. Also, in the event of an emergency and the fire alarm rings, all students are to exit immediately. If your child is in stocking feet, they will not have time to stop to put on their boots.
  • Skating- Our students from Grades 3-8 will have the opportunity to go skating at Goulding Community Centre. All students must have approved skating helmets to participate in this activity. Helmets are necessary to ensure the safety of our students. Parents are always welcome to walk with our students to the skating rink and to assist with skates. If you are available on your child’s skating day to assist with the class, please contact your child’s teacher.
  • If you are planning a vacation/travel out of the country and your child will be missing school for over two weeks, please contact the office before planning your trip.

I am looking forward to working with all students and their parents/guardians for the remainder of this school year. Together we will support and nurture our children to grow academically, spiritually, emotionally and physically. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact either myself, or our vice principal, Mrs. Lorusso, at the school.

Sincerely,

S. Rivers Principal
