FINAL DETAILS CARMICHAEL HILL NIGHT EVENT 25 October 2014
Location. East Mains Farm, Carmichael Estate ML12 6PG.
Entry through Eagle Gates on A73, 4 miles south of Lanark.
6 miles NW of Biggar. Half mile N of Carmichael Estate farm shop.
Parking. In farm yards and timber yards around the farm steading. Do not climb on
equipment or log piles. Keep away from farm buildings and silage/slurry pits.

Terrain. Rough open hill with significant heather and grass growth and very few paths. Some rock, ditches, single trees and quarry holes. Mature woodlands to finish.
Timing/ Punching system. Sportident. Thanks to Robin Strain. BST.
Assembly. In the downstairs rooms of the empty farmhouse. Enquiries, EON, download, famous Tinto soup. A single portaloo is available in the farmyard. No water at start or finish. No toilets at start. Finish adjacent to assembly. You must download even if you do not finish to avoid us searching for lost competitors.
Start. From 1900 hours. Walk to start on flat track 800 metres. Allow 10 minutes. Walk quietly and do not antagonise exhausted stags in fields adjoining the track. Punching start. Whistle and spare light/ torch essential. Cagoules may be required. Course closes 2130 hours.

Dogs. This is a working farm so dogs on leads in car parking yards only.

Location. Cairn Lodge Services M74 junction 11/12.
Parking. In the second car park, next to truck park in the centre of the site. Do not park adjoining the services building or around the petrol station. There will be a charge of £1 per car: please support our hosts by paying this to us and by using their restaurant and shop facilities. There will be an “honesty box” for the £1 for car parking located in the enquiries tent. Please be aware that not all vehicles in the car park will be used by orienteers.

Terrain. Mixed mature woodlands with complex vegetation. Electric fences are off. Minor road through the area must be crossed with care.
Timing/Punching system. Sportident. Thanks to Robin Strain. GMT. Remember clocks go back one hour at 0200 hours on Sunday morning.
Assembly. There will be a tent on the grass adjoining the central car park. Enquiries, EOD, trophy drop off, download will be here. Toilets, food, shop, are available in the Services. There is a dog walking area. Between Assembly and the Start/ Finish is a development site please cross this area only where we have taped the route. Hired SI’s should be collected at Enquiries tent.
Start/Finish. Starts from 1100 hours to 1230 hours. (Remember the hour change). Start and Finish are close together 300 metres due east from Assembly. There is a dangerous dual carriageway (old A74) to cross. Take great care crossing the road. Please cross only at the marked and marshalled location do not cross anywhere else. Follow taped routes. Remember to download even if you do not finish. If retiring you must do so via the dual carriageway crossing point. Courses close 1430 hours.

Prize Giving for Tinto Twin Trophy. This will take place at the picnic area at the back of the Services building in front of the old Douglas Estate gate lodge at 1430 hours.
