The Youth Millennium Development Ambassadors (YMDAs) program is anemergingyouth led initiativedesignedtoinspire, empower, connectandcelebrateoutstandingYouth Leaders to take localand practical steps toworktowards the realization of the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Launched on August 12, 2011 in Sierra Leone with the support of the organizationsGLOBAL EDUCATORS FOR ALL INITIATIVE,MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT AMBASSADORSANDINTER SECONDARY SCHOOLS LEADERSHIP COUNCIL (ISSL COUNCIL), the YMDAsempoweryouth leaders to bridge the globaldevelopmentdivideandfacilitate the emergence of a world without borders whereallindividuals have the right toeducationandsustainabledevelopment. Theywork as volunteerstolocalize the globalMDGs in theirlocalcommunitiesand are mentoredbycurrent Millennium Development Ambassadors.

AppointmentCertificationProcess
1. Applicants must benominatedtoour office by a former/current MDA, community leader, or professional reference.
2. Applicants are requiredtosubmitCVs/resume highlightingtheirworkandexperience.
3. Recognition is givento the past and present efforts of the nominee. Most importantly, it is a new commissionand commitment toimprove the worldforall.
4. Nomineesapprovedby the Millennium Development Ambassadors Council willreceive a letter of approvalandwillbeinvitedtojoin the network of MDAs.*
5. Nomineeswillbeinvitedto the MDAsAwardsCeremonyhonoringtheirextraordinary effort andleadership in creatingglobalpeace.**
6. Appointeeswillparticipate in a mandatoryintroductory seminar on the MDGsandwillendorse the vision of the UN Millennium Declarationandaffirmtheir commitment torealizing the MDGs.

7. MDAsofficially serve forone (1) yearandcanrenewtheirmembershipafterapproval of anannual report highlightingtheirprojectssuccess.
* There is a fee of $200USD which covers administrativecostsand a contributiontoanongoing project developedby the current Millennium Development Ambassadors.
** Local Sierra Leoneanresidentswillparticipate in MDAS AwardsCeremony. Allothersthatcannotattend the ceremonywillbeissuedtheir award via postal mail.

Millennium Development Ambassadors are requiredtobecomefacilitatorsandchampions of the realization of the MDGs in theirlocalcommunities. Ambassadorsmaycarry out one or severalactivities at multiple levels of society, from the individualto the international. Allactivitiesshouldbebased on the Six FundamentalValuesanddedicatedtoachieving the Eight Millennium Development Goals.
As an MDA, members are expectedtojoin MDG Committees; attend meetings, seminars, and conferences; collaboratewithotherAmbassadors; and support otherinitiatives in furthering the MDGS.
MDAswillberequiredto focus on the following:
1. Membership: Recruiting or encouragingotherswithabilitiesand resources tojoinus.
2. Partnership: Creating partnership withgovernments, CSOs, intergovernmentalorganizations, businesses, etc., toengageour members anddeployour programs
3. Programs: Activities/projectsdedicatedto the realization of the 8 goals of the MDGs
4. Funds: Raising funds to support programs andactivities.
5. Reporting/Evaluation: Reporting of activitiesandevaluation
