The Rheems Elementary School Scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior from the Elizabethtown Area School District or the Lancaster County Career and Technology Centers, who will be attending his/her freshman year to begin post-secondary education. There will be one (1) $500, one-year scholarship, which shall be paid directly to the institution specified by the recipient. In no instance shall it be paid directly to the individual.
Eligibility:
A.Applicant must be a Senior, a candidate for graduation from the Elizabethtown Area High School or the Lancaster County Career and Technology Centers
B.Applicant must have completed 3 or more grades at Rheems Elementary School.
C.Race, religion, gender, or national origin shall in no way affect eligibility or preference of selection.
Selection Criteria:
A.Financial need as determined by Rheems Elementary Scholarship Committee.
B.Proof of acceptance by a post-secondary educational school (when accepted).
C.Academic standing as confirmed by official transcript.
D.School/community service.
E.Information gained from written essay by applicant stating educational and personal plans and goals.
F.Information gained from two references. (one non-family, at least one teacher)
G.Each applicant may be required to be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee.
Selection Procedure:
A.Notice of the scholarship will be publicized throughout the schools previously referred to. The students may secure an application form from their high school guidance counselor or from Rheems Elementary School. After completing the application, the applicant will submit the papers to a high school guidance counselor to be forwarded to the Rheems Elementary Scholarship Selection Committee Chairperson. Deadline for application is March 15.
B.The Rheems Elementary School PTO Scholarship Committee shall consist of at least 5 people. The principal of Rheems Elementary School shall serve with the committee in an ex-officio capacity to provide guidance and continuity.
C.The Rheems Elementary School PTO Scholarship Committee will choose the recipient of the scholarship.
D.The Committee shall notify the recipient at the annual awards ceremony at the High School which is held in May of each year.
E.The recipient will receive a congratulatory letter, which will be presented at the annual awards ceremony at their high school.
F.Each scholarship applicant will receive a letter from the Rheems Elementary PTO thanking them for applying and indicating appreciation for their accomplishments.

The candidate must be entering his/her freshman year of post-secondary education. The award shall be paid directly to the institution specified by the recipient. In no instance shall it be paid directly to the individual. The scholarship will be awarded to the recipient at his/her annual school awards assembly.

4.The following criteria will be used in determining the scholarship winner: financial need, academics, community service, extra-curricular activities, , and acceptance by post-secondary educational institution, a written essay, and two references (non-family).
Applications and transcripts must be given to your high school counselor by March 15.

If I should be awarded the scholarship and begin study at a post-secondary institution, but leave voluntarily or otherwise before completing my first semester, I authorize the institution to repay directly to the Rheems Elementary PTO any monies (not exceeding the amount of the scholarship) which becomes refundable.
