PrimaryFunction:UnderthedirectionofthePastor,theLiturgistisresponsibleforfacilitating theworshiplifeoftheparishcommunitybycoordinatingandprovidingqualityliturgicalexperienceswhichcelebrateandstrengthenthemembership'sjourneyoffaith.
EssentialDutiesandResponsibilities:
- Performsasa layecclesialministerinsupportoftheparish'sspiritualandpastoralmission.
- AbidesbyCatholicprinciplesintheemployee'sprofessionalandprivatelife,andshallgovernhis/herprofessionalandprivatelifeinstrictaccordancewithCatholicmoralsandprinciplestodemonstratecompleteadherencetoCatholicmoralstrictures.
- Directstheparishworshipprogram,includingtheplanningofliturgicalseasons,sacramentalcelebrationsandtheliturgicalcalendarincollaborationwiththePastorandMusicDirector.
- Ensuresthatallliturgicalministersarewell-versedintheliturgyoftheChurchandtheproprietyoftheirdutiesincludinganunderstandingoftherubricsoftheChurch.
- EnsuresthatallliturgicalministersareawareofChurchprotocolincludingmaintaininganenvironmentof respectandsolemnityatallliturgicalcelebrations.
- EnsuresthattheliturgicalprogramsandmusicutilizedisinaccordancewiththecurrentlyacceptedpracticesoftheRomanCatholicChurch.
- Recruits,trains,schedules,meetsandmaintainsopencommunicationswithpersonsinvolvedinliturgicalministries:presiders,deacons,lectors,extraordinaryministersoftheEucharist,altarservers,sacristans,ushers,launderers,etc.
- Overseestheaestheticdecorandcleanlinessoftheworshipspace,theprovisionofsacredvesselsandvestments,themaintenanceofaneffectivesoundsystemandthepurchaseofliturgicalresources.
- Coordinateswiththepastortoprepareandmanagetheliturgybudget.
- Educatesmembersoftheparishandservesasparishresourceinmattersofliturgical understanding,sensitivityandplanning.
- WorkswiththeparishcomplianceofficertoensurethatallliturgicalministersareincompliancewiththeSafeEnvironmentProgramoftheDioceseofTucson.
- Performsotherdutiesasassigned
Physical/MentalRequirements: Requirescoordinationandmanualdexterity,normalmental andvisualability;abilitytoliftasrequiredinanormalofficeenvironment.
RequiredActivities: Walking;sitting;standing;stooping;reaching,talking;handling;hearing;carrying;andkeyboarding.
BasicQualifications:
- Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; be in full communion with the Church
- Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills
- Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners and the public
- Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must at all times; ability to travel locally as required
- A well-rounded business background to include business and financial controls experience
- Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing, spreadsheets and power point
- Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance
- Be able to work with volunteers
- Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check
EducationandExperience:
- A bachelor’s degree in liturgy or equivalent experience
- Experience in the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church
Other/Preferred Skills:
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)
