Director’s Update:
BUDGET
Pam answered questions regarding the budget.
Updates
PIT Update - Leatrice:
Currently, we have six full-time PIT paraprofessionals. We are in the process of hiring two more, with one slated to start on March 3rd. We have seven schools on the wait list. The current PIT paras have received on-going training. New PIT paras have received CPI training and are shadowing veteran PIT paras. Leatrice has been working with John H. to revise the PIT application.
CAC Update
Special Needs Resource Fair will be held on March 1, 2014 at Elgin High School from 9am-1pm. There will be guest speakers, and district OT and SLP panel discussions.
OLD BUSINESS
SEC Election
Jill went over the nomination form. The ballot will be sent electronically in early March. Ideally, the election will be completed before the May SEC meeting.
Contract Improvement Sub-Committee
We reviewed the suggested revisions and comments made by the sub-committee. The Red Book is being updated.
Psychologists’ Proposal
We reviewed the key elements of the proposal and provided suggestions for revisions. It was recommended to forward the proposal to Ron Raglin and Dr. Colombe.
NEW BUSINESS
Guest Speaker – Therese Gingerich
Special Education - Early Learners Interventionist, One Hope United/Head Start, Kdg. Transition Facilitator
- She is housed at Illinois Park, but is available to work with all Early Learners/Kdg. populations throughout the district.
- At IL Park, she works with small groups of full-day kdg. one day per week at IL Park. She runs the problem-solving meetings to support teachers and students at IL Park.
She has many roles, some of which include:
- Assisting the Head Start staff with problem-solving, visual supports, classroom management, etc.
- Providing kindergarten teachers with information regarding incoming students.
- Serving on the Give Me Five charter program.
- Providing the Autism summer training programs.
- Consulting with teachers and staff at all levels.
Special Education Audit
The audit has been completed. Melissa Waxler gave us an overview.
Violence in the Classroom
We reviewed steps of how to support teachers and students. Ex. Utilize problem-solving team, take data (www.garycates.net), talk with sped. specialist.
PERSONAL COMMUNIQUES
1. The SEC Link is available to staff on the ETA website.
2. This situation appears to be in resolution. Joyce H. has been communicating with the teacher.
