Hello Mr Patel,
I have just received your draft plan for a proposed extension to number 39 Stonehaven.
I fully understand your predicament with the size of the property. We vacated 37 Stonehaven five years ago when we had two children of our own and decided that the house was too small for four people, but great for a young couple with maybe one small child as its a very good location and very quiet and safe.
As much as we didn’t want to move out, we really needed somewhere bigger and with that in mind we decided to rent out the property. It has been rented to different people over the last 5 years and fortunately we have never had any issues renting it. All tenants so far have been friendly, decent and looked after the house like it was their own.
I feel that the scale of the building work you propose would severely disrupt the current tenants. If they decide to move out whilst the building work was underway, then any new prospective tenants would more than likely not want to rent the house for a considerable amount of time. Additionally, I don’t like the idea of looking out of the window and seeing a five metre, double height extension blocking both the view and the light.
Being a landlord I’ve seen many such properties and it makes the adjoining building look dull and too enclosed. Anyone looking out of the rear windows would be instantly drawn to the huge wall.
Should we ever decide to sell the house in the future, then I think it could affect the resale price and reduces the options for new buyers, for example, nobody could image building a conservatory next to a huge double wall.
Therefore, due to the reasons given above I can’t give my consent to the building work. I do appreciate your situation but I think such a large extension on a small semi-detached house goes against the purpose of its original design, which is the reason people move on as families grow.
I do hope you understand my concerns.
Kind regards
Peter & Tracey Witter, owners of 37 Stonehaven.
